“What do you want?” I asked her. She looked up at me from beneath lowered lashes and I instantly stilled–those blue eyes held my gaze and there was an intensity in them I’d never seen before. “You.” It was one simple word. My pulse sped up and I pushed my hands into my pockets to keep from reaching out and pulling her up against my body. It amazed me how she always said exactly what I wanted and needed to hear. Before I could respond she continued, “Now it’s only fair that I ask you what you asked me… What do you want?” My breath left me in one gush, and the words tumbled out of my mouth before I could stop them, “I want you to be mine.” Her eyes widened and she cocked her head to the side as a small smile curled the corners of her lips. “That’s a bold statement.” I couldn’t stop myself. I stepped forward and pulled her into my arms. She felt small but strong at the same time and I soaked up the feeling of my body wrapped around hers. She was home. Gently, I pressed a kiss to her forehead. “I should’ve told you that a long time ago.” Her arms snaked around my neck and she leaned back so that she could peer up at me. “Do you mean it?” I nodded. She raised up on tip toe, brushed her lips against mine, and whispered, “I’m yours.”
