Apparently some people still need to hear this so: using an 'ai checker' is still using ai. If you are feeding someone's fic to one of these checkers, you will still not be sure their fic is ai because they are not 100% accurate, but you can be 100% sure that you are using ai. For fic. Furthermore you are doing the work of an ai scraper for them. You are, personally, feeding the machine. There is no actual excuse for using an ai checker on fanfic as a hobby. YOU are the problem.
If you think a fic is ai, mute it and move on. That's it. That's all you do.
Um. Yikes

digital selfharm is real. do NOT check up on that ex-partner/ex-friend. do NOT reread those old messages/conversations that you know will hurt your feelings all over again or that will otherwise make you feel like shit. do NOT block evade to see if you’re being talked about. inhale. exhale. let it pass and you’ll be better for it.

friend of mine recommended a video essay that's like 5 hours long about why it's currently a whole Thing for fascists to claim they only eat meat and demonize vegetables etc etc, and it's genuinely quite well researched in many places and contains some fascinating history and has made me feel very weird about my status as an adult who enjoys drinking milk. but I've not finished it and I genuinely don't know if I will because at one point the ol' "you can't say you care about animals and also eat animals" chestnut got dropped by the white vegan essayist and it put such a bad taste in my mouth that I had to leave instantly
like idk man it just feels genuinely parodic to dedicate hours to analyzing how foodways have frequently been used as white supremacist propaganda and then casually toss out an argument that pretty invariably demonizes indigenous hunting practices with 0 regard for traditional knowledge and land stewardship guiding those practices
well at least say it to my face instead of hiding it in the tags if you're going to make accusations like that, come on now
Okay, but like. They’re not wrong. Youre not participating in traditional hunting practices, and you do presumably buy your own milk. I’m not vegan either, but we need to own up to our contributions to exploitative systems.
if you read closely you might notice that I never claimed to be participating in traditional hunting practices. I said that making the blanket statement, without caveat, that it's impossible to both care about and eat animals, shows blatant disregard for foodways both historical and present that exist(ed) outside of factory farming, many of which are the practices of various indigenous cultures, an omission that I find to be a bit egregious in an explicitly antifascist essay. I'm in no way trying to cover my own ass or deny my participation in any industries, but rather critiquing what I perceive as a notable shortcoming of the essayists' rhetoric.
Wait I can't believe I haven't talked about my holiday bits on here before. So I work in grocery and I always work holidays and big events that mean we get a ton of tourists in our town and a ton of customers non stop all day. When you work retail on holidays you end up having the same conversations over and over again, so this year I made it a point to choose a bit or a lie for each holiday to keep up for my entire shift that serves solely to mess with customers without them realizing what I'm doing, and ensure I have fun and make myself laugh. Here are the 2026 holiday bits so far:
Memorial day: I pretended I didn't know what it was, and I wanted to see how many customers would correct me if I kept referring to it as "America's birthday". Some people wanted to kill me with hammers for this I wont lie
Easter: I pretended to be catholic and would tell people at the register while making small talk that I gave up lying for lent and couldn't lie again until the new year because it's something I've been meaning to work on (not how lent works) (not catholic) (actively lying about lying)
Valentine's day: I invented a fake boyfriend at the beginning of my shift and wanted to see how developed of a character I could create by the time my shift ended with the rule that I could only add to his lore by telling customers things about him out loud (I have a boyfriend named Jake who surfs and is a photography major at UC Santa Barbara who I was going to celebrate Valentine's day with the following weekend because he's on a camping trip in Big Sur with his surf buddies and I also managed to sneak in that hes lived in 2 houses that burned down and that's where his passion for photography comes from, he wants to preserve his memories)
New years: I decided to tell every customer a different new years resolution but I could only make them up on the spot and couldn't say the same thing twice
Superbowl Sunday: every time someone asked me what team I was rooting for, I would confidently and excitedly say any team I could think of except for the two in the actual Superbowl and whenever someone told me that they weren't in the Superbowl I would look super crushed and disappointed
Achievement unlocked: discovered piece of media at exact right time in your life to experience maximum peak emotional impact and infatuation
No, it's okay. I was just thinking about sprx flying off to save antauri the moment the opportunity presented itself, after questioning his personhood and being kind of an asshole the whole episode. About antauri reacting with serene satisfaction when sprx blast him free, as if that's what he always expected. About his raging cry when sprx get shot, and the way he tenderly pick up his body, gently lie him down on the floor of the super robot before collapsing himself. About how sprx doubted antauri, but antauri never doubted sprx and he was proven right in the end. Nothing to feel crazy about.

No one is safe from Skeleton King. As long as he's out there terrorizing the cosmos, we have to do something about it.
