She, she, she, it is she… It is often she. And in the old songs and in the long nights, she holds him in the softness of her arms, in her arms that are open, in her arms that are wide, that are open, that are always, that must always be open. And in the old ways and in the old laws, this was arranged. All this was arranged. And who arranged it? Did Amel? And that is what it means to be loved. It is Amel. It is always Amel. It is often she… Into the land where the dead are kept, where the dead are worshipped. And why the days without number? And what am I for? What is this for? And what should Amel do with it if not to answer? And why are they throwing stones? And why is she curled on the ground? And why is it wound… And in my eyes is desire, and why is it desire? And why does he tell her what God has said? And why Amel in their mouths? And why must my voice be smooth? And why must I sing so low? And why is she kept? Why must she be kept? And why in this place must she be kept? And what does it mean if you are not asked? And what does it mean if you are not answered? And what is it to see and to know, but to be told… You have not seen. You have not known. And why is her tongue cut out? And why is her death prolonged? And when will it stop? And who will stop it? And why must they, must we, must I, must he, must they, as the millennia, unfold? Why the girl curled? Why her eyes lowered? Why on the side of the road? Why limp in the straw? I am the girl! I am the god! I am the voice! I am the song! I am the night! And I can answer! I can arrange it! I can say rise, and I can say speak! And I am her! And I am she! And I, I, I, I am the answer!

Okay. I saw the backrooms movie a few days ago now and I feel ready to articulate my thoughts on it properly. Including the racism (yes we are going there). Spoilers ahead
I loved Clark, as a character. I was really disappointed with how the second half of the film included him choking out, tying up and holding a white woman at knife point. Maybe this is because as someone from the UK, knife crime is highly racialised and it just felt... wrong. I am not sure if this was intentional on the part of the writers and producers, but even as an unfortunate untentional result the race politics are still really bad. This could have easily been solved (?) by having Mary not be a white lady, or having Clark remain the main character throughout and we see his descent into madness directly.
Clark is characterised as an alcoholic black man who is unable to escape the cycle of violence that his brain pushes on him. Not society, Mary specifically talks about neural pathways. He is portrayed very sympathetically for the majority of the film, but that does not take away from the stereotypes being reinforced here. This is further emphasised by him being the only black character in the entire story- even Captain Clark is played by a white man (no, I'm not kidding. Look it up).
When I came out of the cinema, I was a bit disappointed- and not for the reasons I'd seen people talk about online. I wasn't mad there wasn't more Async content or they only explored level 1 according to the wiki, I was upset at how Clark was treated by the narrative.
I logged onto tumblr to see what my fellow SJWs were saying and almost everyone was glazing the film. The cinematography was in fact excellent. The use of practical effects was superb. It was scary and gripping and yet, it still left a bad taste in my mouth. I understand fans of the film might take this as a personal criticism: I am not calling you racist. I'm just calling you to question some of the decisions made in production, and not blindly love a film without acknowledging its flaws.

Lesmand for the real ones
The whole auction scene was foreplay imo (im so excited for more episodes)
Yes i want to love The Backrooms movie but I can’t ignore the obtuse decision in casting a WHITE MAN as Pirate Clark, the black antagonist. This is literally blackface.
