Warning about Bodypaint

It is super important to understand that what looks good for cosplays =/= healthy for your body. Do not put acrylic paint on your skin. A lot of brands of acrylic paint have metal in it and it can actually poison you and make you sick. Not to mention it is difficult to remove, gets suck in hair easily, and will clog your pores for 10,000 years (probably not but it’ll definitely stay put unless you scrub until you’re skin’s red).

Here is a detailed post about why PAX paint is not a good idea, why it can be dangerous to you, and other, healthier alternatives for your skin. The alternatives include a lot of stuff we already recommend such as Ben Nye, Kryolan, and more.

Seriously guys, don’t hurt yourselves trying to paint for a cosplay. There’s nothing fun about working hard on a cosplay only to get sick and spend hours in a con bathroom feeling awful.

No cosplay with worth more than your health.

Hi!!! If you’re planning on doing a cosplay that involves body painting, these brand comparison photos from facepaint.com will probably be helpful! I’ll be uploading the warm color tests separately. This blog also does a by-brand review of some colors, and I’ve found it helpful in the past! I also found this album by JestPaint on facebook that has a lot of swatch comparisons—further back in the album they show what some paints look like on a range of different skin colors.

For those of you getting ready for con season (ahem, Kamicon), here’s an easy way to remove old makeup stains! Mix a bit of blue dish soap and peroxide together and scrub the stained area with it.

Tutorial Time! Magic thigh-high stockings that won’t slip or fall down! I came up with this technique a few years ago after having a few cosplays with stockings that were always rolling and slipping down, or cutting into my thighs and just overall were not making my cosplay as good as it could be. People are always surprised when they find out how my stockings are made, so I though I would share the idea with other cosplayers! This really has been the best thing for my costumes. You don’t have to adjust your costume piece and the illusion fabric makes your thighs look awesome!
