Not as Isaac pilled as some members of the upp community but i Heart thinking about how differently yet strangely similarly Deadwood and the things inhabiting it (people & monsters) treat them. Isaac and William are the only two in upp to be attacked by the returned, but while Isaac is attacked due to Mr Abrahams own fucked up plans of sacrificing Isaac in exchange for his own son, William actively calls out to the returned.
Isaac is often blamed for the trouble he and William cause Together, and the only person who labels William the bad influence over Isaac is Isaac’s mom. Even Lui and Norah seem to overlook how often Isaac does the shit he does at Williams' insistence (Lui’s “it’s not our fault he’s good at being bad”)!!!!!
William and Isaac are so, So similar, but maybe it’s just their differing personalities or outward “vibe” that seems to make the big difference. William speaks softly, she dresses in moody colors and goes behind adults backs, unlike Isaac who’s loudly rebellious, disobedient and hard to control. Janice who knows for a fact both Isaac and William make good with the shit Isaac steals, but only Isaac being given dirty looks by the cops. Both of their parents knowing their kids sneak off, but William getting a mean talking to vs fucking Bars being installed on Isaacs windows after getting caught. William always, Constantly, pushing the group and herself closer to the danger, always on the brink of going too far, always too close for comfort, but it’s always Isaac who ends up at the secondary location, always Isaac who’s immediately targeted by the main threats.
I don’t have a proper conclusion to this, but it’s very fun to think about. The closest my head gets is William suffering quietly VS Isaac suffering loudly. How when things go bad William starts shouting versus when things go bad and Isaac Stops shouting.
