Percy: I tried to make a joke today and nobody got it.
Jason: What happened?
Piper: Spill, I gotta hear this.
Percy: We were learning about the Eiffel tower in art and someone asked how tall it was.
Jason: So?
Percy: I said, "It's taller than Big Ben" and everyone ignored me for the rest of the class.
Jason: ...why
Piper [choking on laughter]: DUDE THAT'S FUNNY!
this is aesthetic and all but that probably tastes like shit
Unpopular opinion: time is linear

Annabeth age 12: Percy do NOT disrespect the gods, and try to avoid calling them by them by their names. Names are powerful.Â
Annabeth age 17: hate ALL the gods. every. single. one. Hera the most. Hey! Hey Hera! FUCK OFFÂ
Sing me the song of your people SOUP! meow! Sing me the song of your friends SOUP! meow! Sing me a song for the good times SOUP! meow! Sing me a song, a song. HEY SOUP! meeeeoooow!
IsâŚis this catâs name soup?
His full name is âSoupy Bonjourâ.
We call him âSoupâ for short.
iâm reading a fic about ballet dancers, and itâs brutally unflinching about the way dancers treat their bodies. itâs making me remember why i didnât stick with dance.
i was very into it, for a while, in my early teens. not ballet; modern dance. the kind of stuff you see in that âtake me to churchâ video. i was good, for a kid. i was strong, i was short and not having a growth spurt (surprisingly helpful), i had insane endurance, and while my flexibility was something i wouldâve had to work on, i didnât have that adolescent instinct to hold back and fade into the crowd. i threw myself completely into everything i did, and the instructors sat up and took notice. they thought they might have a star protege on their hands. so they gave me opportunities, which i, all unknowing, jumped on because i liked the challenge. and they leaned on me, which i, used to team sports, took as pure encouragement â until they started wanting me to ignore my bodyâs limits.
in soccer, in baseball, in judo, my coaches had been universally in favor of knowing and respecting your limits, expanding them carefully, watching for damage. but dance instructors seemed to want me to hurt myself. i saw others, mostly girls, practicing full speed with injuries that wouldâve benched any other kind of athlete. not because they were more hardcore than, say, a basketball player. but because dancers are supposed to be inhuman machines, and it doesnât matter whether they can heal, only whether they can dance.
so i quit modern dance, and took up tae kwon do.
it was less violent.
a common misconception about ballet, modern, and other dance styles is that you can jump into it whenever you want. like without training, when in reality most dancerâs condition and rehearse literally all the time. one time rehearsal was so long I literally slept at the studio.Â
dancing is like a battle with the body and itâs one of the unhealthy things you can do to yourself. never underestimate ballerinas and dancers because we are warriors and weÂ

Some person/monster: lets talk about your parentage
Percy: i love my mom

Hereâs a feminist issue and hey, whaddaya know? Almost no western feminists talking about it. Imagine that. http://jewishjournal.com/news/world/230117/woman-iconic-iran-protests-photo-identified/ http://iran-hrm.com/index.php/2018/01/24/iconic-women-known-girl-enghelab-street-arrested/ http://inliniedreapta.net/jurnal/where_is_she-vida-movahed-e-tanara-iraniana-arestata-si-disparuta-din-27-decembrie-2017/ https://www.trendsmap.com/twitter/tweet/956223104472244226 https://babalublog.com/2018/01/25/brave-iranian-woman-who-took-off-her-hijab-and-waved-it-during-protest-is-missing/ I hope that she is released alive and safe and that there will be a day when things like this dont happen. This sort of treatment is unjust and oppressive. @shitposter-nugget
Damn I hope she is safe
Serious courage
Iâm not Muslim but this is quite clearly why we need to listen to non white women on this. Plenty of people who live in the West and wear the hijab have outright said they do not feel they are oppressed, while women in countries where it is law. often do feel oppressed by it. It doesnât mean one size fits all rules should apply. Listening to people should not be this hard.
Update: A human rights lawyer says that Vida Movahed has been released. This hasnât been independently verified but Nasrin Sotoudeh says she saw the documentation of release in the prosecutorâs office.
No details yet on what has happened to 29-30 other women arrested for âpublic order offencesâ (removing their hijabs in public).
Also:
Elham Khatami: âA reminder that women in Iran are protesting *forced* hijab, not the idea of hijab altogether. Bears repeating since lots of ppl are projecting their Islamophobia onto the protests.â https://t.co/Ygs7asbIkr
Armin Navabi: âAn elderly woman in #Iran joins the protest against forced #hijab. She has difficulty walking. But that doesnât stop her from showing her support.â https://t.co/TiI9hllXH9
so this kid in my world history class literally said he loved the Percy Jackson movies and I spit the water I was drinkingÂ
Will: Nico, Iâm so happy I could kiss you!
Nico: Umm... neat!
[later]
Nico, lying face down on his bed: I canât believe I said "neat", Jason. "Neat". Nobody says neat anymore. Itâs the goddamn 21st century. Itâs not neat to say neat, but I said it anyway because Iâm a huge loser.
Jason: Hey, donât beat yourself up. Everyone gets nervous sometimes. Remember what happened when Piper confessed to me?
Nico: Didnât you thank her?
Jason, staring into the distance: I thanked her.
some asshole: âWhy do you even like that character?â
me: âBecause theyâre a great character.â
asshole: âBut theyâve done so many shitty and problematic things, you canât just excuse-â
me: âI said a GREAT CHARACTER not a GOOD PERSON you imaginationless wet napkin, this character is an asshole and a human disaster who deserves everything coming to them but they c a n s t i l l b e m y f a v o r i t eâ
I feel like when youâre writing, organizing chapters and dialogue is easy
but jfc, the amount of time it takes to constantly keep people moving and make sure theyâre in the right spaces and trying to come up with wording for it is always such a shock.Â
Like, fuck, I made you pick up a coffee cup, you need to put it down at some point. also I canât remember what I dressed you in, can you push up your sleeves? I donât remember if you even have your shirt on.
and YOU. YOU OVER THERE, you got out of your chair earlier, but did you come back yet? Are you coming back? Where did you even go and whyâd you get up? Fuck, I canât make you sit down again already, you just stood up, goâŚover there. go get more coffee. Did you bring your mug with you? fine. bring the pot to the table andâwait, wasnât the coffee pot already over here? shit, hold on, I need to go back and re-read and re-write
this is the most relevant thing i have ever read.
I think one of the most wild things as a writer is the sensation that youâre not actually directing your charactersâ theyâre sort of directing themselves, and youâre scrambling around attempting to copy down whatever it was that they just did, but they donât wait for you to finish copying. They just keep walking and talking and moving around and existing of their own volition and at some point you look up and youâre like âWHOA OKAY EVERYBODY BACK THE FUCK UP WHERE ARE WEâ
Itâs kind of like trying to write sheet music for an orchestra while itâs playing
this is especially true when inspiration hits when all I have is my phone or something and I'm just furiously typing likeÂ
holy fuck brain stop for just a sec lemme write that down
