altho i will say. both rich and dave are high achievers but the reason rich seems to succeed in whatever he does while dave seemingly never winning anything is that one of them likes pushing things more than a normal level.
rich does win awards and trophies but as acknowledged by himself and others he's not like like exceptionally expert at it (?). like he's not on that level of professional baseball player, his martial arts skills are impressive but not to the level of being an action hero for a renowned director.
rich,, i guess he's not as rushing (?) as dave is, he's more level-headed with a reasonable approach to things. and fairly lucky that things go his way and that his efforts paid off. hm, his strengths can become his weakness like in rockabye rich; too inspired that he can't stop and rest. for me, the closest to him showing his insecurity that we see is in switcheroo, when he realized he isn't able to be helpful to the movers. also he can be sloppy sometimes lol.
dave's ideas are one of a kind for sure and a lot of the times the thing that backfires and holds him back for his inventions is that he's doing too much lol. he can't make an invention that just does things as is; it has to be 'super', it has to have extra features, it has to be more than it is.
which could mean nothing lol, just that the series is wacky and fun like that. but maybeee it could also reflect what standards he holds for himself (??). he overthinks and then misses simple solutions, always wanting to do more than "just enough".
some inventions break when he increases the level (?) that the invention cannot handle, sometimes important factors slip out of his mind due to him focusing on an additonal feature, and sometimes because he rushes to use and show what he invents so he doesn't take time to test or check again.
makes sense, inventors would want to create new things, and with dave's family seemingly having a lot of inventors, dave probably has seen plenty of amazing inventions made by his family members. maybe that plays a part in why he is that way, and the pressure he'd put on himself.
cuz when he doesn't push it, his inventions work fine and are pretty useful, like the ones he made for each of the Movers in the Awards episode.
actually i don't know what i'm writing now haha. i'm just saying what comes to mind. i want to study him under a mikroskop,,,,,
