runs in the family
Incredible to think about the "Metronomic, my Rashid," scene as like, character crafting in their fucked up little RPG. Louis is speaking to him telepathically like "What're you gonna do, break character?"
I donāt care that Daniel is old in this version, I want Armand to fuck that old man and I will be DISAPPOINTED if he doesnāt
i just think that daniel molloy deserves to get dicked down. like he's earned it, if anyone has it's him.
after talking to Eric Bogosian today I'm doubling down on this stance

As someone whose favorite VC character if you asked me point blank would probably be Armand, the fact that there are apologists is baffling to me⦠like what do you mean, his whole appeal, the appeal of all of them for that matter is how fucked up they are (I donāt get book Lestat apologists either for that matter⦠or show Lestat apologists⦠) the whole apologist culture just seems like people are missing the whole point of horror as a genre and morally gray/villain protagonists in general tbh
@fallacyxstitch FINALLY some sense lol
love how louis starts the story of how they killed lestat by giving daniel a detailed list of all the ways to kill a vampire and then goes āwe didnāt do any of those things but trust me heās dead for sureā
I laid down with the devil and he has roots in me. All his spindly roots in me.
I'm starting to suspect Armand has messed around with Louis's memories even more than we may have realized. Take, for example, Lestat's wardrobe.
His wardrobe keeps to a lovely color palette with creams, reds, greens, and grays. Now look at what he wore in episode 5:
This is the first time we've seen him in all black. It looks familiar, doesn't it?
I'm going to posit a theory: what if Rashid/Armand is the one who threw Louis out of the sky, then manipulated Louis's memories to think it was Lestat who hurt him in that way?
oh god stop trying to make Lestat less awful, he's a piece of shit and we š are š allowed š to š like š him anyway, because he is fictional. this is fiction.
I'll get into the whole "the show is not perfect either as an adaptation or in general and people are allowed to criticize the choices it makes" thing more later, but since I've seen a lot of vaguing about it, I'll just say this:
Armand is both a major and very very complex character in TVC. Possibly the most complex in the whole series. He's tragic, fucked up and fascinating and his physical appearance is a crucial part of who he is and has relevance to the plot in several instances, Claudia's eventual fate for example. He too was turned too young and it's something that absolutely affects his psyche. He too is eternally a pretty little doll, something that both has brought him unspeakable trauma and something he has learned to use to his advantage as a tool of manipulation. He's frequently compared to a Botticelli angel in the books and it's not just there as a superficial description. He's a devil who looks like an angel and as someone who grew up deeply religious it has fucked him up.
Obviously some people are attached to him being a pale redhead, just like people are attached to Lestat being a blue-eyed blond, but I'm fairly sure most of the concern from book readers is essentially "how much exactly have they changed him?". Because those changes will in turn affect other things, other characters, other relationship dynamics etc. And again, if anyone's physical appearance is relevant to both the character and the larger plot in TVC it's Armand's. So I'd even go so far as to say getting him right is one of the most important tasks especially if you're looking to adapt TVC in its entirety. He cannot just be any random dude in adaptation without it inevitably affecting other things.
Again, I don't believe the issue to virtually anyone is that they tweaked his background/ethnicity, but the "what else is different?". How much have they aged him up, is his overall backstory still the same? How much of the Rashid persona was an act? There are hints, sure, but we don't know yet. I understand that some people welcome the changes due to (perceived) age differences, interracial power dynamics etc. but... it should be a bit fucked up, you know? It's all fucked up. It's kind of the point.
And finally, if you ask me personally? My issue is much less his appearance than the fact that I'm not really getting anything tangibly and undeniably Armand from the character, not from the way he's been portrayed. He's a very blank slate at this point, and the only real hints throughout the season have pretty much been through dialogue. Telling, not showing. I've suspected from since before the show started airing and have been keeping a close eye on "Rashid" as a result, and the thing is, while I'm not sure if it's fair to place the blame on the actor at this point, I do think it was a mistake to introduce the character this way. Because doing justice to a character when you have to essentially play the character playing a character for a whole season without giving too much away, or getting a chance to do press etc.? That's a tough task on any actor, and as things stand I sadly can't say I'm convinced he succeeded.
And if this oddly muted Armand is what we're just supposed to accept as the show's version of Armand? I'd say there's every reason to be concerned and disappointed. *shrug*
that's a hella lot words buddy for saying you don't want Armand to be a brown skinned man. But sure get off on your "legit" concerns bye

HELP!
āLouis can sometimesā¦.act out. I protect him from himself, always have.ā
-Armand totally not influencing Louis or keeping him by his side in any suspect way
@thestickdudette screaming crying throwing up
people are already writing their "i can excuse murder but i draw line at domestic violence" essays
idk what do you call rashid's career but I want that one ššš
If I had a nickel for every time a TV show had a murderer awaking the murder instincts in another man to then become a gay couple and adopt a child because they want to have a silly little toxic family I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice

what is going on in the heads of people who watched the x-men movies and donāt think professor x and magneto fucked. i want to study you.
heteronormativity is wild. Charles and Erik will be standing there and theyāll be crying because Charles just unearthed one of Erikās only remaining happy memories after almost two decades of nothing but pain and suffering. and it will be the only time at any point in any of the movies that Erik shows that kind of vulnerability, something far more emotional and tragic and painful and soft and loving than any scene between him and his female love interests.
and Erik will be one of the only people who reacts to Charlesās power with awe and curiosity and joy instead of fear. because heās not scared of Charles being in his head for his sake, heās scared of it for CHARLESāS sake (which is subtext ⦠but also not? Erik refers to himself as a monster multiple times and itās not something heās proud itās not a threat he holds over other people of itās the result of pain and torture and loss and trauma. itās what he was turned into now what he is. and the one time he tells Charles to stay out of his head itās in response to Charles telling him he knows everything about him. āso you know to stay out of my head.ā itās not a threat itās āso you already know what a monster I am.ā)
because if Charles is in his head than Charles knows heās a monster. and he doesnāt care. he doesnāt even think heās a monster at all. he thinks heās amazing and wonderful and good. Erik doesnāt care that Charles could control him itās not a thought in his head. Charles knows everything about him and Charles doesnāt run and even Erik doesnāt kno whow much thatās worth to him.
and everyone else who finds out about Charlesās power is scared of him (rightly, heās incredibly powerful) but itās something thatās ironically very isolating from him because people are scared of what heāll do to their minds and what heāll do without them knowing, so they donāt trust him, they donāt want to be close with him. even Raven, his surrogate sister, tells him repeatedly to stay out of her head and doesnāt seem to trust him entirely. but Erik does he trusts him, Erik doesnāt mind that heās in his head, Erik seems to WANT him there. and theyāre standing there and theyāre crying and itās a beautiful memory and itās the first time Erikās been this close with someone since his family died and itās the first time Charles has had someone know about his power and not fear him and theyāre crying
and some people just. see that and think āoh yeah perfectly heterosexual.ā what is it like.
