so like 2 things about your arguments about the mainstream-ifcation of hrpf.
one, sometimes i think sharks pr actively hams up willmack because they know what goes on here lol so idk if that refutes it or makes it worse.
but on the other hand, two: if the hockey boys and/or the nhl become (even more) anti-queer because they don't like what fans in the rpf sphere are up to, isn't that just them showing their true colours? i know sometimes it's better for imagination land if we don't know for sure that they are shitty people. but if them being shitty would make you not like them or ruin the content for you, then there's tons of stuff that has happened that probably should've run you out before? like as a rpf consumer/creator or whatnot, you kinda have to find a degree of separation btwn them as people and them as characters.
and on a final note, the author in question did not "break the fourth wall"-- that would be @ ing on twitter or going to a fansign with hrpf. all fandom is doing to her is dogpiling and bullying. she is not at fault for people overreacting and deleting fic. that's their decision to not stand by their weird fun hobby.
ehhhhh i hear you but im not like, worried the nhl will go nuclear against queer people because of willmack and its more about the disturbance to the ecosystem which was rpf being an elephant in the room that no one else could see. like the biggest impact is less likely to be societal but instead more damage on the actual premise of rpf itself, which is getting to weave an imagination about what is happening, not SHAPE what is happening. the bit is that you see something not even the guy youâre seeing it from can see, let alone that the nhl can see. does that make sense?? like on some level we are all national georgraphic documentarians and the nhl and formula 1 and the mlb and etc are a baby penguin that lost its family we are Not allowed to help it we are Not allowed to intervene we are not allowed to have an impact on the natural order weâre technically not even there. but we can watch and decide the penguinâs gay and can go into heat but also. also. thereâs a birdâs eye view here of like. Whyyyy is sports so gay the intricate rituals etc etc but theyâre intricate because of the toxicity so if you amp that up by making it a norm that people think youâre fucking your teammates when you hug them then where do we go. and to be clear this is not a âlet men be friendsâ argument because i dont think this means players gonna stop hugging their teammates i think actually toxicity like this just breads worse and worse intricacy but the eye of the storm still needs to be dished out somewhere and that somewhere will be in the places itâs always been: in the culture that makes it impossible for anyone to come out, in hazing, in the monolith of backgrounds and personalities, et cetera.
