Now back and gayer than ever

I keep seeing this same criticism of the backrooms and it bugs me because I don’t think it’s bad writing at all? You learn about the characters more from what they IMPLY versus what they SAY. That’s GOOD writing.

For example, Clark says he “hurts people.” He harps on and on about how the fight that got him kicked out of his house was because he broke a glass. And the fact that he’s in therapy when he’s a character who clearly does NOT want to better himself all tell you what’s going on.

Clark lies. He didn’t “just break a glass” he came home in a drunken stupor and abused his wife. He’s in therapy most likely not because he wants to be, but because he’s so broken and abusive that it’s been court mandated. His assertion that he hurts people comes around towards the end of the movie when he enjoys being in the backrooms specifically BECAUSE the entities there feel no pain and allow his abusive tendencies to FLOURISH. He is borderline a serial killer in the making BEFORE he even finds the backrooms.
