i really feel like.....everyone has forgotten what a fucking troll andrew hussie is. even i forgot the extent to which hussie, tongue-in-cheek or not, held open resentment toward their fanbase

its the kind of thing that can make you question who homestuck is even for, sometimes. the tonal whiplash is pretty noticeable at certain points. it can be this incredibly heartwarming and sincere comic, or at least appear that way, before returning to mean spirited horseshit and punishing you for taking it too seriously...like for as many bones as the fans are thrown just as many are used to club them in the face. and that isn't even considering the epilogues or anything else post-canon since i havent read them yet

like even if they do have good intentions there's so much that goes completely unaddressed. it comes off wishy washy at best

but for some reason we are meant to take them as this Representation Messiah.....when half the shit they get praised for isnt even IN the text and much of what is IN the text is not flattering if we're approaching it from a progressive angle

it just leaves me wondering what the fuck happened and how we got here. like. hussies desired fanbase was the somethingawful forums and they got Homo Teens instead and the way they chose to handle that was akin to mom lalonde's "is this mother's misguided love or mother's passive-aggressive contempt" behavior

the near-end of the comic might be my favorite of the two?

i remember people being so up in arms but because i was stupid and did not understand what i was reading anyway i couldn't even tell you for a fact what they were upset about. the idea of retconning at all, the idea of dream bubbles, the idea of no more dream bubbles...various character development qualms...

but all of that stuff made sense to me. like, i don't have any particular sense of lost potential or any character i was like fuck how dare you forget about them and leave them to rot. like, did people genuinely expect the ghosts to be able to come along with them into the new world or what...

i am actually relieved at the utter lack of gamzee for the better part of the end of the comic. i do not like gamzee and you are not really meant to like gamzee.

and now i really understand what My Good Friend Jake meant about like....some people take the classpect stuff to be very serious destinies the characters are meant to fulfill based on inherent traits they possess. and yeah they all say a lot of stuff like that...but like...i think that its a forest for the trees thing. the grand destiny of their lives is what it is because they are in a story. their classes and aspects are assigned to them in order to advance the story. not every character advances the story to the same extent because that'd be insane. and in like, any other work of fiction, you could make the case, because you wouldnt be getting this fuckin doylist about it without coming across as a tool, but in this one the grotesque metafuckery of it all changes the context. like the paradoxical throughline of every single thing they do is what Creates the destiny. they were always meant to do it because they had to do it to make sure they existed in the first place, which they hadnt done until suddenly they had to do it. sburb is some disgusting game that drinks its own koolaid backwash forever and ever until someone breaks the cycle by godmodding

i was so close. so close to saying the words: "i dont get why people thought this was a bad ending. that was pretty good. obviously with a story of this epic of proportions and length anything was probably going to fall short of extremely inflated fan expectations and disappoint at least a handful of people, but most of this culminated in a way that i found logical and fulfilling to what it spent so long setting up"

and then the snapchat thing. yeah that stumped me. cute moments in there. but it stumped me. so calliope...created a black hole where the green sun was, right...? and then....i guess that swallowed up all the lord english damage and by extension the dream bubbles/whatever was left behind in their old world and thats why we get that like split second shot of an agonized nepeta being owned by the void

and caliborn is able to send them snapchats For Some Reason and uhh i dont know. i dont fucking know with that. sure

minor nitpick but i dont like that they end the story in the exact same outfits. draw them some drip befitting of 20 year olds

i mean we also have a lot of people just left out of the snapchat ending which is also sucks but i get that it would have been very time consuming to get literally everyone in there. still i mean you made it this far. what's 100 more pictures. they didnt even have to be animated
