Libertas - The latin word for liberty, freedom. It was also the name of a new city being born.
It’s builders and owners wanted it to be exactly that, a sanctuary. They advertised it as a place to escape, a city to start fresh. And from an on looker it would appear to be exactly that. However moving to Libertas isn’t as simple as just picking a house and moving in.
A mystery ‘Panel’ were willing to waive the application fee in return for one small simple thing… Secrets.
Nobody ever knew why the Panel asked for their secrets at the time, but they start to realize why eventually. The illusive group of strangers are known to hold the information over the inhabitants head, threatening to expose them if they don’t follow their orders. While you’d hope that venomous people pulling strings would stop there, it alas does not. People’s idealistic hopes for a new city formed on liberty are quickly turning out to be just that, a mere fantasy.

Marian’s not so sure it would have gone much better had she received that phone call. Within the first ten minutes, she was looking for a way out, her heart screaming about how wrong this all is. The man she’s with is great, Marian’s just not nearly as ready as get back into dating as she thought.
It feels weird just thinking about how she’s supposed to be on a date - her first since breaking up with Robin. Technically, she still is on one; It’s just taken a very unsuspected turn. Instead of getting to know each other over drinks and dinner, she and her date (who kindly came with her when she told him at an old friend had gotten hurt) are making slightly awkward conversation in a hospital waiting room, while she - well waits. Waits for more information, waits for a chance to see him. How fitting, that the first time Marian gets to see Robin in over a month is the same night she decided to finally try to move past him. As if she’s ever been capable of that.
When they finally tell Marian she can see him, relief fills her. A doctor and her date escort her Rob’s room. She wipes under her eyes, trying to hide any signs of earlier crying. This entire situation has been devastating to say the very least. Marian opens the door, thanking them both before fully entering. Her breath stills for the briefest of moments when her eyes fall on him for the first time in ages.
She’s thought about this countless times, thought about what seeing him again would be like. Never did she imagine the circumstance that lead to seeing each other would involve a hospital. Marian’s heart hurts seeing him like this. There’s so much she wants to do, so many forms of comfort she wishes she could offer him. But she manages to fight those urges. Instead she sits in the chair next to his bed, pulling it closer.
“Hey,” she whispers, somehow managing to hold back both the affectionate words (darling, love) that sit heavy at the tip of her tongue and the tears that well up at the bottom of her eyes. Her hands reach for one of his; Maybe she shouldn’t, given their situation. But it seems appropriate in the moment.
He felt drowzy, dulled and muted as he finally came too. Thankfully the damage hadn’t been bad, they’d managed to get the bullet out fine, he’d just lost alot of blood which had been expected.
Even if the voice was faint he knew who it belonged to even before he’d opened his eyes to look at the woman. “Mar..” He mumbled absently as he turned his head peering through his laces only to see her by his side. There was no doubt that he was relieved to see her, of all the people that Robin would want to wake up to, especially in a place like this; it would be her. No matter what they were doing, or where they were. He knew it would always be here. Robin hated hospitals as it was, and granted because of the pain medication it did take him a moment to realize where he was. And when he did, there was an automatic frown edged onto his features. He shifted in the bed and the sting that ran over his shoulder made him winced, the jolt through his nerves enough to remember what had happened.
Trying to be a hero, always trying to be a hero.
He shouldn’t have been so surprised that one of these times had actually landed him in the hospital. After all it was only a matter of time surely. Because what else did he expect if he was running around trying to save everyone? Sure being in the hospital made him uncomfortable. But that didn’t change who was sitting right by his side and his attention was quickly fixated on her again like it normally did.
“How did you-..” Rob spoke as his eyes flickered over her features. It’s been so long since he’d seen her, he took a moment. A moment to let his eyes flicker over his features as if he was worried that he’d blink and she’s be out of reach again. Eyes flickered to her hand resting over his briefly, to which he turned his hand over so he could lace his fingers with hers. He probably shouldn’t. He knew he shouldn’t. But considering the current situation, he wanted just the smallest piece of her that he could hold onto. “You’re really here.” The male uttered quietly as his eyes flickered back up to her. Granted it didn’t help that his senses were a little dulled because of the pain killers that were running through his system, he shouldn’t have but his thumb ran lightly over the back of her hand. This was the last place he ever wanted her to see him, but it had been so long that just seeing her was enough. “Who told you?”
He’d been walking in the park, just like he had most nights. When he saw someone in distress. A woman and a man struggling, the woman screaming for help. How was he supposed to ignore that? He didn’t even think. His legs were sprinting over to drag the male off of her, punching him square in the jaw and knocking him to the ground.
‘Get going don’t worry about me.’ Rob assured flashing a kind smile and firm nod in hopes it would assure her that everything was going to be okay, that she was going to be okay. Because in Robin’s eyes that’s all that mattered. He was helping her stand, telling her over and over that it was okay. She was safe. He’d dragged the park gates closed behind her exist. Closing the lock to make sure she couldn’t be followed. Self sacrificing as always, Rob put himself above others as he always had done. He’d climb over it, it’s be fine. Negating the fact that the male had whirled back on him with all hell raging and dragged him backwards.
Robin was well versed in combat, with his skills he easily slipped through his fingers, if anything he was feeling a little smug. That was until he pulled the gun out of his pocket and was aiming it straight at him.
He shouldn’t have been like this. How had it come to this?
Robin started to negotiate, to try and talk him down, to say something anything that could make the situation dulled. It didn’t work. He’d felt the bullet pierced through his skin before the bang shot through the air, leaving an echo in it’s trace and a taste of mental lingering on his tongue. Or was that the blood in his mouth?
He knew he wasn’t invincible. As reckless and heroic as he could be, putting himself above other people, Robin knew he was mortal. He knew how easily he could bleed, hadn’t he bled before?
Not like this not like this.
He could play the hero. But who was going to save him when he fell?
They were aiming up to take another shot, to pierce his skin with bullets and leave him feeling hollow, broken, damaged and dead. But the sirens. God bless the sirens. Screeched through the air like cries from above, saving him before the hooded male could take the final blow. The other ran, slipping into the night as easily as he’d come from. A hooded figure leaving the shot male and the other woman on the other side of the fence screaming and crying to the police officers who were coming up the foot path. But they sounded muted to Robin’s ears which still were left ringing with the sound of the gun shot.
He stumbled backwards, his breath falling raggedly from his cut lip as he tried to find something anything to lean against. A tree. “Shit..” The male cursed as his hand moved to steady himself against the bark. As if the support could stop the pain that was coursing through his veins begging for attention. As if some how he could take back the past fifteen minutes. But if he had, what then? The woman could be hurt, mugged, dead? God but this pain demanded attention.
A quivering breath fell from his lips. “Bugger me-” He cursed under his breath as his pushed himself up against the tree as if it could some how offer some kind of support. Grunting in pain, his eyes shut tightly, jaw clenched as his hand clamped over his shoulder as if it could stop the blood that was now staining his shirt. There was so much blood..too much blood. How could one bullet cause this much damage?
It was dark sure, but he could also feel the red sticky liquid staining his hands leaving traces on the bark beneath his touch. Well that was until his fingers could trace the craving under his fingers tips. It was familiar. Painfully so. That’s when his blurred vision blinked into focus and locked on the initials he’d carved months ago. MB + RH, cut away with a heart surrounding them. For a moment it hurt less. It was almost bitter sweet that he’d end up here. Of all the places, he was fated to fall under, wasn’t it almost perfect that this was the one he fell against? Even if they weren’t together, it still felt like she was here holding his hand and telling him that it was going to be okay.
Everything was going to be okay, if he just closed his eyes.
“I’m so sorry Marian..” He breathed, bloody hand running over their initials as his head rested against the bark. He was feeling faint now, tired..if only he could just close his eyes.
Clamping his hand back over the bullet wound in his shoulder, a painful moan rose from his throat as he lowered himself to the bottom of the tree he’d spent so many hours finding comfort under. He could hear the rustling of chains of them trying to get through the gate to help him to rescue him. But everything felt foggy, distant within itself and almost like he was underwater. His eyes trying to catch a glimpse of anything, something to focus on but how could it when his head was starting to spin.
His eyes flickered closed briefly, only to be woken up by a police man shaking him awaking asking his name urgently. He voice was weak, but he was able to utter: “Robin..Robin Hood..Marian.. tell her I’m sorry. Tell her I love her.. tell her i-I’m sorry..” It was almost a beg. A last hope.
Darling. Her heart flutters again, even as it’s breaking again. Darling. She finds herself wondering if it’s affection or instinct that brought the word out of then. She finds torn between hoping he would say it again - hoping he call her darling until all the pain the last few weeks have brought vanishes from both their memories - and hoping he would stop. At one point, that used to be her favorite word. Marian used to smile when he called her that; Even now, a ghost of one pulls at her lips, remembering a time when they were together and happy. Maybe one day she’d feel full of joy upon hearing it. Darling. Right now though, all she can associate it with is all the ways she’s been hurt by him.
Of course, as much as she’s hurting, as much as she wants to cry, Marian can only imagine how painful this his for Robin. She knows him, knows that he would never hurt her like this on purpose. She can hear the sadness in his voice. God, that hurts worse than anything else about this exchange. She wishes there was a way she could soothe it. But there’s nothing she can say, nothing she could possibly do, to make any of this situation better. And even if there was, she can’t find any words to say. So she doesn’t, keeps silent for a moment.
“Oh.” It’s all she can say for a moment as the reality of the situation sinks in. “You have nothing to apologize for, Robin.” At least in not this situation. Even if she wanted to, Marian can’t fault him for any of this. This was a sweet gesture, even if it wasn’t intended after everything. “It’s fine, really.” She should have figured that was the situation. Instead, she let her emotions get the better of her. “Right of course. I’ll um. I’ll keep that in mind.” How could she not keep them though? They’re beautiful, and Marian’s kept every gift Robin’s ever given her. “I’m sorry I bothered you.”
You have nothing to apologize for. It wasn’t true atleast not to him. How could it be when he felt like he had everything and then more to be sorry for? But the worse thing? He’d broken the one thing he’d promised to safe guard, to protect and love. “It’s not fine Mar..” Robin sighed shifted where he sat as a hand moved to run up and over his face, a puff of air blowing from his cheeks as he tried to come up with anything better to say. Something that could ease her, to make this any less uncomfortable than it already was; but nothing came. “I have everything to be sorry for.” The male uttered simply, jaw clenching as the words fell from his lips. There was so much that he wanted to say to her, but words failed. Because he knew that if he said what he was really feeling, if he explained that ache that was leaving his chest so hollow, it would only make things worse. Her absence was something he had to get used to, it was better for her. It had to be.
“You’re never a bother Marian, not to me.” Robin spoke his voice soft through the phone, if anything held a little sadness among their own. It shouldn’t hurt this much. Talking to her shouldn’t be like this. But how could it not hurt when all that Robin wanted to do was hear her voice in person, to revel in every word she spoke like it was the last time he was hearing it. Maybe that’s why he didn’t hang up, just held the phone tighter to his ear as if it could some how bring her closer. As if knowing she was on the other line some how made this more bareable.
He was silent on the other line, with just his breathing falling off of his lips as the words that he anted to say lingered in the back of her mind. The words of affection, darling, love..the I miss you’s and I love you’s burning in his mouth begging to be free but he couldn’t do it. What good would that do. But still, the simple words fell off his lips in a quiet admittance before he could think any better. “It’s good to hear your voice..”
He’d…dropped his notebook from the tree he’d been sitting in. Again. Oops. Except this time, he’d heard an ‘ow’, or something like it. Double oops. Grimacing, Levi dropped from his place on a branch, and stood in front of whoever he’d dropped his stuff on. “My b, there was a squirrel being a total dick. You good?”
“Bloody hell-” He uttered his hand raising to rub the top of his head as he looked at the book briefly before glancing up. Though his question as to what the hell just happened was quickly answered as soon as the male dropped from the branch. Almost automatically an entertained smile pulled at the edge of his features. “How long have you been up there for?”

Mickey shrugged his shoulders a little. It wasn’t like it was that much big of a deal, let alone, he was supposed to be there for Robin during his heartache. Not the other way around. “It’s just some relationship issues,” he said with as he looked at the counter, tapping his fingers for a second. “Or that lack of one for that matter. I guess it just sucks, really. With this whole day and all. But I’m okay, really. I’m pulling through Robin.”
Granted the words took a moment to process fully. Wait- him and Minnie? Robin’s brows furrowed automatically at his words. He knew that everyone had there issues - god he knew that. But Mickey and Minnie had seemed so- solid to him. Well hadn’t him and Marian been solid once? Watching the other, Robin frowned lightly with concern as he set his drink back down. “Lack off? What happened?”
Any of the pain from the past few weeks - the aching that being separated has caused her - that still lingers after first hearing his voice vanishes as Robin says her name again. Her hopeful hurt flutters in her chest, her soft smile grows, at the sound of it. This entire day, which had started off with her feeling so lonely, has left her feeling optimistic in regards to their relationship.
But in just a few short seconds, confusion riddles her features as he tells her he didn’t send the flowers. Just like that, the feeling of bliss she had been reveling in a moment ago vanishes. Just a moment ago, she felt as if she could fly. But now, her heart is sinking deep into her chest, thinking that this was just a mistake on her part. “I don’t understand.” Even if the attached card wasn’t there, Marian has no reason to believe anyone else would send her flowers. They have to be from him.
Her fingers run over the writing on the note that was attached to the flowers, over where his name was written. “The card says they’re from you, my - “ she pauses, cutting herself off before more (unwanted, from what it seems) affection falls from her lips. My love. My darling. She wants so badly to call him those things, but she can’t. As desperately as she wishes he were, Robin isn’t her anything. He’s not hers - a fact her stubborn heart refuses to accept. But how could it when she’s never loved anyone the way she loves him. “The card says they’re from you,” she repeats, her voice hardly above a whisper trying to disguise how shaky it is.
“Darling-” The word slipped his lips before he had a chance to stop it and automatically it was followed by a small sigh passing his lips. “I’m sorry but I-” He cut himself off a light frown forming at the edge of his features as he was about to deny that they were from him again. But then he remembered. He’s ordered them before everything had fallen apart, when they were together and happy and- he’d really made a mistake now. “Marian I’m sorry.” He spoke, swallowing the lump that was forming in the base of his throat. “I did order you flowers when we were-” together. Before everything had fallen apart at their fingers tip. Before everything felt so out of place and out of touch as it did now. Before she felt so far away from him.
“After we-” Broke up. He couldn’t bring himself to even say it because the idea in itself still pained him. They never said goodbye, how could it really be a break up if they didn’t say that? But it was. He’d made the decision which he knew in the long term would be better for her, but right now it didn’t sooth his aching heart. “I forgot to cancel them.” He admitted wearily, a sadness edged at the edge of his features which could easily be heard in his voice. No amount of hiding could deny that. In true, Robin had been almost hap hazard since they broke up. Almost as if it were just sleeping walking through a bad dream they’d soon wake up from and rejoice again in each others arms.
“I’m sorry-” He was sorry for more than just the flowers though. He was sorry he’d forgotten and it had caused her more pain, that it brought up more memories and things maybe she’d now rather forget. He was sorry he’d broken her heart, hurting her was never someone the wanted to do. Wasn’t that the worst part of the whole thing? There was another sigh off his lips as a hand raised to run over his face as he shifted where he sat. “You don’t have to keep them.”
Marian’s been dreading this day since the turn of the month. Ordinarily, she adores Valentine’s Day. She’s the sort of woman whose heart sings at the very idea of love, at the idea of a day dedicated to celebrating it. But as she can’t be with the man she loves, and - though it’s slowly piecing itself back together - her heart is still shatter, there’s very little for Marian to celebrate this day.
Or so she thought.
A knock at her door changes that. The bouquet of flowers delivered to her instantly lifts Marian’s spirit. As she sees who they’re from, she grows even more excited. Robin. Marian lets herself wonder if this means that he still thinks about her, if it means that he doesn’t want to be without her any longer. She hopes that’s what this mean. Either way, she has to thank him for the gift.
Briefly, she considers doing it in person - considering turning up in person with the gift she custom ordered him at the start of January in hand. But that might be too much too fast. A phone call would be better. She hesitates for a moment when she first pulls out her phone, purely nervous that she’ll say the wrong thing again, and give Robin cause to pull away from her again. Thankfully, she’s able to push those fears aside and press the call button. Her breath stills as the phone rings. But the moment he says her name, she sighs a happy sighs. Marian’s missed that sound - that of his voice. She misses the rest of him still, but this will do for now. “Robin,” she greets, warmth and soft laughter in her voice. “Everything’s fine, darling” That term of affection falls from her lips before Marian has a chance to stop them. Not that she wants to. “The flowers you sent me arrived,” she explains. “I just wanted to thank you for them. They’re beautiful.”
And there was her voice and laughter, just like he’d heard so many times before. But considering they hadn’t spoken in what? 2 weeks? Her voice sounded all the sweeter. Just her uttering his name had an ache filling his chest that had his eyes flickering closed as if some how it could pause time. Just for more than a second so he could revel in her voice speaking his name, something so simple but god he’d missed it.
“Marian..” He breathed his head resting back against the tree bark his heart feeling like it was sinking to the bottom of his stomach. He didn’t think it could go any lower. Robin was already trying to put his life back together without one of the main pieces it involved - her -, he thought that it was enough. He’d broken her heart once, a cruel twist of fate that had left him feeling hollow and defeated. Maybe the first time they had parted ways had been difficult, heart breaking yes. They’d been each others first loves once and that was powerful thing. But it hadn’t stung as much as this. Maybe because he knew what living with her was like, that now having to try and live without felt impossible. Up until she came back into his life he realized he’d just been surviving, passing the days by with his smile like he always did. With Marian- he felt full, alive. The separation had been agony, but what hurt more was knowing he was the one causing her pain this time around.
Darling.
What was worse was knowing he’d have to do it again now. Her words broke him in two. She sounds so content, happy and here he was on the other end of the phone with features downcast knowing he’d have to take that from her again. “Marian-“ Darling. “I-“ Robin uttered over the phone before a sigh fell from his lips. It was hard enough to not let the similar term of endearment fall from his lips, so much that his tongue felt like it didn’t belong as if it had betrayed his heart. Because hadn’t it? If the situation was different, he’d been holding onto her tightly and never letting go. Instead he was cursing himself as he spoke, his voice sounded down hearted despite how steady he tried to make it: “I’m sorry- I didn’t send you any flowers.”
Someone else was sending her flowers. Even the thought of her being with someone else ached. Wasn’t this what he’d wanted? For her to be happy with someone? To have a safer happier life? Even if it wasn’t with him. It didn’t mean the idea hurt any less. “You have a secret admirer? That’s-” He spoke, trying, he was really trying. “That’s- nice..I’m glad you like them.”

Valentines day. A few weeks ago he’s been looking forward to the day, to be able to spend it with someone he loved and to share that with one another. But then again, Rob had always been a romantic at heart. Yet right now, for a day that he normally enjoyed, he was sat solemn in the park as if it could some how bring him closer to the only person he really wanted to be with today. While he was sat back pressed against the bark of their tree day dreaming the day away like normal, as if on queue his phone rang. It was a different ring tone, at first he thought it was a joke; the university almost shaking it’s head and laughing. But with the name and her photo flashing up on the screen, there was a warm sadness that edged onto the corners of his features. Barely making the last ring of the phone as he was too busy looking at the name and photo, an ache already filling in his chest. “Marian?” He answered holding the phone close to his ear, waiting for her voice something anything to hold onto. “Is everything alright?” @fcndhearted
“Of course,” he said back as he went to clean the counter. Mickey knew what Robin was going through, out of all the people in the world, and in what timing let alone. He hadn’t gone through breakups before, he never had anything like that with Minnie. But there was a first for anything apparently, even the things that caused more pain. At Robin’s question, Mickey looked up from what he was doing, letting out a sigh as he looked down again for a second. “Yeah. I’m alright. Just, trying to keep my head busy, that’s all. Everything has been too stressing lately,” he said with a soft shrug.
His brows furrowed lightly with concern as he looked over at the male.“You wanna talk about it?” Robin asked as he watched the male carefully. Mickey was always trying to help other people, listening and supporting them what felt like unconditionally. It was the least that Robin could do to offer even his shoulder and ear for the other to voice his own troubles.
“It’s no problem at all, Robin. Stay as long as you want,” said back Mickey with a nod as he watched Robin eat one fry. Not like that eased him up but the smell of freshly fried fries with seasoning was bound to make the man grow hungry. That and it was quite a good fix to avoid a hangover that he knew would come morning for him, with how fast his beer was going down. “It’s alright, they’re there just in case. On the house too,” he said with a soft smile. At his question, he just let out a sigh, “Very. Yes, I’ve been very busy lately. Just, I’ve been trying to keep my mind working. Having time to think right now is not welcomed.”
“Cheers, means alot.” Robin spoke genuinely, forcing a smile in Mickey’s direction out of gratitude. He’d been so busy trying to keep his mind distracted and pre-occupied that eating and well looking after himself hadn’t really fallen into the equation. It was working, going to the gym and admittedly spending too many nights out late - mainly on the rooftops -, because being alone in his flat wasn’t painful. Trying to sleep alone left a painful ache to his heart, it was just easier to avoid it right now. Pausing to really look over the male, Rob’s expression dimmed further, brows furrowing in concern. That sounded all too familiar. “I know the feeling there. Everything alright with you mate?”
“No. I don’t mind at all, Robin,” said back Mickey from across the bar as he watched the man drink his beer, with a look on his face that showed that he was surely needing it, but at the same time telling Mickey that a drink had been the only thing he had that night. “As long as you eat these, sure. I don’t mind,” said Michael as he pushed the plate of fries towards Robin. At least he’d drink with a full stomach.
“I won’t stay long. It’s just Johnny isn’t around at the minute, so it’s just a bit too quite.” Robin admitted with a shake of his head before he took another swig from the bottle in his hand. If Johnny was here, then maybe he would have taken it slightly better; he’d atleast have a mate around to distract him from the lonely nights. But who was he kidding, he’d broken up with Marian there wasn’t a world in which this situation could be made easier. “Thanks, but i’m not hungry.” He spoke as he looked over at the male, but after a brief moment ate one just to placade him. “You been busy?” He asked half heartedly, trying to make some light conversation though it was clear as day his usual chipper persona had dimmed.

Rob was sat perched on the edge of the bar, drink in hand. He’d been trying to keep himself busy since the storm for- obvious reasons. Since he’d broken up with Marian- it was safe to say he hadn’t been doing well. He looked rougher than normal. Tired from long nights of trying to fill the ache in his chest, from over working and spending too long at the gym the exhaustion was evident over his features. Taking a sip from the beer in his hand, he sighed as he shifted in his seat; pausing as he looked over at the older male. “You sure you don’t mind me hanging out here tonight?” @michael-mickeymouse
