Eating on a busy schedule:How not to mess up your diet
Most of us have crazy busy lives these days, work, education, children etc, it can be very hard to stay on track when you're on 9+ hours a day at work and the canteen don't have alot to offer but the basics (Salad or fruit). Do you find yourself wanting to scoff three packets of crisps at your desk, or find yourself polishing off the kids leftovers? Fear not my friends, we've all been there. This used to b a staple in my diet at one point. So how can we fix it?
Well one major way is Meal Prepping, (isn't that just for body builders and crazy people?) Beleive it or not, it's the easiest way to eat good food and not stress about how many calories your next meal will be, or fretting about what to eat next. Here's a few tips when meal prepping.
1:Do your food prep shop on a full stomach!- buying everything in sight will not only result in high sugar, low nutritional choices, but will also cost you a fortune.
2: Have a solid idea on what you want for the next 4-5 days- Being indecisive will result in you buying rubbish and possible things you won't want when it comes to the day of eating.
3: Don't fear Frozen: Veg, Fruit,Meat etc. these things are amazing and can last for ages in the freezer, They still have all the goodness of fresh produce and half the cost, buying in bulk means you can prep more for the following week whilst saving yourself some cash!
4: Have a plan: Pick out your main meals and then pick healthier snacks (I.e frozen fruit and yoghurt). Pick things you actually like and are most likely to actually eat, Having a plan will help you stick to your daily targets and prevent "binging"
5: Be realistic: Cutting out everything you love and swapping it out for stuff you'll sicken yourself with is a sure way to guarantee you'll polish off the leftovers. Pick things you like and include some chocolate if you really want it. Everything in moderation, it's all about balance
6: Prep in advance: stick to your plan, have food and snacks for the full amount of days you want and store them away so they are easy to grab for the next day. Bulk cook meals like chilli, bolognese etc and separate them into tubs, So they are grabable in the morning before you dash off to work. Make it easy for you to stick to, prep ahead and refrigerate or freeze and bring out when you need it.
