Welcome to Ericson's Boarding School.
In this AU, the world never ended.
There are no walkers roaming the forests, no collapsing civilization, and no fight for survival. But it still feels like it. Life goes on the way it always has in the school; “teen drama”, as every outsider from the inner circles called it, but they wouldn’t get it. High school–especially a boarding school for “troubled youth”--has a way of making “ordinary” moments feel catastrophic, up-sized. Hormone-drunken teenagers doing stupid shit in an attempt to prove themselves (Prove what? Nobody knows, not even themselves). A stupid rumor passed between lunch tables in hushed whispers. Getting picked last, getting picked *first*, missing curfew, saying the wrong thing or saying nothing at all. It all means something, it always does.
Nestled deep within a remote stretch of woodland, Ericson's Boarding School is a private residential academy for troubled teenagers. Whether they were expelled, arrested, abandoned, or just considered too difficult for regular schools, every student arrives here carrying a story they'd usually rather leave behind. Either way, at Ericson's, everyone lives together under one roof whether they like it or not. Friendships form fast, a glance is enough to assure a “click” between two people. Rivalries form even faster, though, and privacy is practically nonexistent. Any secret you trust anybody else with will eventually come out to the world around you and ruin your life–or not. You can take your chances. Either way, every day is another chance to reinvent yourself, or prove everyone right about you.
This is a character-driven, slice-of-life AU inspired by The Walking Dead: The Final Season, reimagining Ericson's as it existed before the apocalypse. Every major character from Season 4 coexists as a student or staff member, allowing interactions that could never happen in canon while staying true to each character's personality and struggles. Whether you’re just trying to graduate and move on from your life to get out of this shitty school, trying desperately to repair a broken relationship or friendship with the crumbs of what it used to be, or just trying to figure out your place in this world, your story starts here.
Ericson's is intentionally isolated. Surrounded by dense forests and miles from the nearest town purposefully, to keep those pesky teens away from causing any trouble (Even if, realistically, they’ll still find a way to do so) students spend nearly all of their time on campus, creating an environment where everyone knows everyone, for better or worse. The school has a reputation for taking in students other institutions have given up on, believing that structure, community, and responsibility can help them build a better future. Whether that’s true or not depends on who you ask.
The school grounds include:
- Administration Building
- Kitchen & Culinary Classroom
- Shared Dormitories–separated by gender, of course.
While students technically aren't supposed to wander into the surrounding woods after curfew, that rule is broken (un)surprisingly often.
Students live on campus throughout the school year. Dorms are shared, with multiple students assigned to each room or suite depending on availability. Roommates are selected by staff, meaning friends, rivals or complete strangers may end up sharing a space. Dorm life quickly becomes the center of student life. It’s forced closure, after all. A great way to have people get to know each other and socialize whether they like it or not. Secret parties, late night conversations, arguments, roommate drama–Nothing stays private for long.
Throughout the school year, staff may host events such as:
- Student Council Elections
- Midterm & Final Exam Weeks
Smaller spontaneous events may also occur, including dorm inspections, power outages, heavy snowstorms, scavenger hunts, and weekend trips into town.
Like any boarding school, Ericson's operates under strict rules:
- Attend all scheduled classes unless excused.
- Respect faculty members and fellow students.
- Curfew begins at 10:00 PM on weekdays.
- No leaving campus without permission.
- No entering dormitories assigned to the opposite sex after curfew.
- Fighting, bullying, theft, vandalism, and possession of illegal substances are prohibited.
- Quiet hours must be respected.
- Rooms are subject to inspection.
- Community service may replace traditional detention for certain offenses.
Repeated misconduct may result in suspension or expulsion.
