Stone carried from the bottom of Cape Blomidon back to the top of the Bluff

This is a part of the Jurassic basalt layer of Cape Blomidon that sits above the Triassic mudstones that form the bulk of Cape Blomidon. It arrived atop Blomidon roughly 140 million years ago only to tumble from its perch perhaps a few dozen years ago. This month I carried it back up the bluff to place it back to where it originated in a futile effort against Blomidon’s active erosion.

Blomidon from Grand Pre - Beginning to be able to read the landscape, orienting myself with the particular relationships between the far banks of the Minas Basin and the subtle shifting of Cape Blomidon’s profile. You can see the below image is farther East along the banks, the dipping of the lands on the north coast of the basin help tell us where we are.

Today I ventured to Ross Creek Centre for the Arts on the North Mountain

The dreary weather drove off most of the Plein Art Artists that were planning to paint at the centre but I still got to be acquainted with this charming and wonderful arts centre!

Landscape of Grand Pré

Location: Old Post Road, Grand Pré

Facing North - from the View Park towards the expanse of dykelands of the World Heritage Site. To the east and west are dykes protecting the active agricultural landscape. The Memorial Church at Grand-Pré National Historic Site can be seen in the middle distance; Long Island is to the north of the dykelands and the cliffs of Blomidon are in the far distance.
