Wren was in such a rush to get to orientation that she tripped over her own shoes. A pair of hands caught her around the waist and pulled her to her feet. Wren glanced up and saw a pair of blue eyes looking back at her. 

"I think you just fell for me." The guy who caught her said with a light, throaty laugh.  "I--what?" Wren's voice was an embarrassing squeak.  "I said I think you just fell for me!" He grinned at her, the skin right above the bridge of his nose wrinkling up.  "I'm so sorry! I am running late for this orientation thing, and I almost missed the bus over here and I'm trying to move in and--"  "Hey, slow down and take a breath," He laughed at her again, "It's okay. We're all a little hectic today. Are you okay, otherwise?"  "I'm sorry. Yeah, I'm fine. I didn't catch your name." She said, giving him an apologetic smile.  "My name's Wesley Brewer! What's your name, miss?" She noticed now he had a southern drawl. A local, maybe? "I'm Wren King. It's a pleasure to meet you, Wesley."  "The pleasure's all mine, Wren! So are you from around here or--?"  They were interrupted by a voice over the speakers in the room asking everyone to take a seat so they could begin the orientation. Wren sighed and turned, but Wesley grabbed her elbow.

Wesley had a very average upbringing. He is the youngest of two boys, but his older brother is fourteen years older than he. He was practically raised an only child. He lived in a small, southern town his entire life and was raised in churches and in nature for much of his young life. Wesley wasn't quite like his older brother who loved to hunt and fish and play sports. Wesley was more into music and following his mother around the house, trying to be her helper. Wesley's always been closer to his mom than his dad, but he loves his whole family. His cousin closest in age (at least, that he got to see more than Christmases) was 13 years older than he, too. He grew up more mature than other kids, but his charismatic attitude always kept him surrounded by friends.

Soren Emilé Tamesis was born in Nice, France. Growing up he'd always been plagued by shadow monsters that no one else could see. He was a shy, skittish child who was easily wound up over the smallest things. He battled insomnia, and whenever he got exhausted the monsters were at their worst. His parents couldn't understand why their sweet little boy woke up crying from nightmares of demonic, cut-mouth creatures. 

He was six when he was first put in an asylum. His parents had found him in the bathroom with slashed arms, claiming the monsters would only leave him alone that way. After he recovered in the hospital, a children's ward took him in and began trying to get to the source of the issue. At eight he was diagnosed with childhood onset Schizophrenia. For the remainder of his childhood he battled monsters and would have to be sedated for days at a time to get any rest, since he was too young for anti-psychotic medication. The only thing that seemed to calm him was art, something the psychiatrists encouraged as a part of his therapy. 

In what would have been his middle school years he was given special privileges by his psychiatrist and the asylum staff to attend an art class at the community center. There were always two nurses with him in case of a 'spell', and he did have one from time to time. Usually he was calm and collected during the lessons, throwing himself into whatever art project they gave out. He showed a natural talent for art, particularly portraits and 'fantasy' art. His art was often dark in nature, but therapeutic nonetheless.

At fourteen he was transferred to the States to a special facility for teens with chronic or intensive mental illnesses. He met Wren there at the age of sixteen. He was drawn to the girl's friendly, nurturing personality but was always too scared to approach her. She would come sit with him, silently watching him sketch in the patient lounge. Finally, the two began to have short discussions which bloomed into a fleeting friendship. The deal was sealed, so to speak, the night of the power outage.

Soren was so scared. The monster with the Glasglow Smile was closing in. He could smell the metallic stink and feel its hot breath on his face. It let out a bone-shivering metal-on-metal screech as Wren entered the room. She knew his situation and asked him to tell her what they were doing. All he could do was point and whimper as he pressed himself further into the corner of the room. She gave a war-cry and took off at the monsters, hissing at them to get back and brandishing a flashlight. They sunk back into the corners of the room until they weren't visible anymore. Soren clung to Wren and sobbed as she promised to protect him.

Wren King  YA/19 Generation 1 Bookworm, Hopeless Romantic, Charismatic, Nurturing, Friendly.

Wren was born to a pair of pathetic drug addicts. Her donor womb had already popped out four other children before Wren was born. Apparently drugs were far more important than the well-being of her child, since she continually did crack, pot, and drank while pregnant with Wren. In fact, Wren was born with traces of crack in her system. This is probably what caused the hellish health problems she suffered with as a child, and some of which she still struggles with today. At the age of three months old, following three cardiac arrests, Wren's donor womb was being investigated by the state. They planned to come in and take the children, so she shoveled them off on family to keep the DFACS at bay. But being that Wren had heart problems, was severely underweight and malnourished, no one wanted her. Wren was adopted at three months old by Elizabeth King, an artist, and her husband Daniel, a pastor. The two knew Wren's donor womb through Liz's cousin who was a drug buddy. Liz and Daniel knew that Wren wouldn't last in the foster system, and brought the child into their home and lives. After that Wren was raised an only child, Liz being unable to bear children. 

Growing up Wren was an exceptionally bright child. She was a little too trusting and possibly too mature for her age, but she began walking, talking, and reading early. This stunned her pediatrician, who told Liz and Daniel that Wren wouldn't live to see a year old and if she somehow made it that she would be mentally handicapped. At the age of five she was tested by the school system and found to have a 167 IQ and was already into chapter books. She has never been one to flaunt her intelligence, and comes across as very modest about it. But it did make her a target for the other kids. Paired with her quirky, kindergoth attitude she was a prime target for bullying. 

The bullying lasted her entire life, and worsened in middle and early high school. In fact, she was so violently bullied that she became depressed and attempted suicide six times before her eighteenth birthday. At the age of sixteen she was put into a mental hospital after an overdose of Tylenol and antidepressants, and that is where she met her best friend Soren. Soren was a skittish, quiet boy with a stunning IQ and equally stunning artistic skills. He had been in and out of mental institutions his entire life as he suffered from paranoid Schizophrenia with delusions that manifested themselves in the form of shadow monsters. 

Wren and Soren bonded one night after a storm took out power at the mental hospital. Wren found Soren sobbing in the corner of his room, shaking from fear of the monsters no one could see. Wren stormed into the room, shouted at the "monsters" and brandished a flashlight in the direction Soren pointed. According to Soren, the monsters were scared of her and went away. She gave him that flashlight and sat next to him, holding him and saying she'd protect him from the monsters.

Wren and Soren became best friends and were inseparable. One afternoon Wren shocked Soren by kissing him. Neither of them had kissed before and it was very awkward. Soren confessed that he did like Wren, but that he didn't like girls. Wren stared at him in confusion as he blushed and explained that he thought he was gay. Wren merely beamed back, a little heartbroken, and hugged him and said she'd find him a boyfriend someday.
