i hate how much people care about their ships being "canon" now. spirk fans didn't publish zines full of fanfics in the 70s only for modern fandom to grovel at the knees of corporations and beg for things to be canon. use your imaginations, don't allow billionaires to think for you.
we all know the x-files pilot is insane and one of my favorite insane things about it is mulder (understandably) initially being concerned scully is just being sent by the government to spy on him, because you think to yourself, oh surely this will be a longstanding conflict and she will slowly have to earn his confidence, considering that his entire lifeâs work is built on his fundamental distrust of the authority that sent her. but all she has to do is say âno i swear iâm not you have to believe me :(â and bat her eyelashes and heâs immediately like god youâre so right you would never lie to me iâm going to tell you my entire life story and deepest trauma NOW. theyâve known each other 4 hours btw

holding ur hand gently as i say this. kneecap isnt the only focain irish language band out there <3. expand ur horizons a chairde there is so much good music as gaeilge around rn
some recommendations:
SĂșil AmhĂĄin is a poet and rapper from Listowel (hon the kingdom!) and I fucking love his music for how it effortlessly positions gaelainn not as a relic of a slowly suffocating culture, but as a language belonging totally to the modern world and to modern Ireland in particular, and at the same time staying true to aspects of traditional Gaelic songs, such as a propensity towards place names lol. the ĂĄit dhĂșchais is as important in SĂșil AmhĂĄin's 'LĂĄ BreĂĄ', as it is in any sean-nĂłs song and the leanĂșnachas between tradition and a bold plunge to the future is inspiring
IMLĂ is a pretty prominent collective in the Irish language music scene, their stuff is like pop / hip hop / indie and for the most part their singers have Connemara Irish i think. some of their songs annoy the shit out of me lol and im not a huge fan of what James Shannon brings to the table but i LOVE RĂłisĂn Seoighe and overall theyre fun!
RĂłisĂn Seoighe's individual stuff is brilliant as well, i really love this song of hers.
Amano is a Japanese-Irish singer songwriter from Kerry who released an EP last year, Thread, comprised of 4 incredible songs in Irish. her voice is beautiful and her music energizing and the EP weaves together so many disparate threads đ its such a joy to listen to!
i just love KĂla. theyve been around for a few decades, theyve a wealth of albums and their newest one, Raise the Road, is a collaboration with an 8-piece brass brand âŒïž They're described as 'Contemporary Irish World Music' and their sound is sublime, theyve such palpable energy. ngl tho RĂłnĂĄn Ă Snodaigh is a phenomenal bodhrĂĄn player but i find it very hard to understand his irish, idk if its just the dublinness or what lol

What do historians mean when they say "archive"? One archivist makes the case for a more precise use of the word.
It is a shame to fight over terminology, especially when there is a perfectly accurate and precise term that could be used: personal collections. Not only is âpersonal collectionsâ more accurate, in my experience it also draws studentsâ attention to a number of questions that they donât ask about the term âarchive.â When I discuss personal or special collections with students, they begin asking questions that âarchiveâ does not inspire, such as: Collected by whom? Collected why? For what purpose? These are the questions we are trying to teach as historians.
As many historians currently use the word âarchives,â they seem to imply that an archive is the natural state in which primary sources arrange themselves after being discarded or left by their creators. It creates the false impression that there is little to no work that goes into making primary sources available to researchers, andâmore dangerouslyâthat archives are even a neutral or unmoderated space. When archives and the historical record are used interchangeably in this way, we are unable to see what might be missing.
the thing that bewilders me about a lot of fantasy readers is that they read about settings and plots featuring imperialism, war, and slavery and then call the inclusion of violence, abuse, and sexual exploitation "edgy" and "gratuitous" and it's like what did you think was happening. why were you under the impression that you were going to get a cozy story about fascism or something. far be it from me to criticize anyone for not wanting to read about torture in their spare time, and there are certainly cases where heavy subjects are poorly executed, but is it not equally insulting to sanitize them for a feel-good adventure.. like no one put a gun to your head and forced you to give your fantasy novel an enslaved protagonist. sometimes writing is supposed to make you feel bad

What would you do if you were scrolling through recommended tumblr posts and one was from someone you don't know and it was just a picture of your dad captioned "fucking hate this guy" and it had hundreds of notes
