If the Duffer Brothers didn't want to give Will another love interest much sooner because they wanted to focus on his story (even though Will's story heavily revolved around Mike, regardless it was a one-sided crush or not) why didn't just make Will an aromantic asexual instead of gay?
I mean, think about that? It would have solved all of their problems of people criticizing them for literally giving the male character that they choose to be gay only get an epilogue boyfriend that we only saw for a second while other characters get way more romance and they literally would still have the self-acceptance arc for Will too. Like, aromantic asexual people have literally said that they have felt broken because of societal pressures to be with someone romantically too, after all, and we know how the Duffer Brothers feel about Byler now too. Not to mention, the Byler fanbase wouldn't be as big if they did make Will canonically aromantic asexual too. I mean, the Byler actually became a thing way back in seasons 1 and 2 because we thought that Mike was the one that had a crush on Will, not the other way around.
I mean, even if a lot of people didn't know what aromantic asexual was way back in the 80s and I'm even sure that were even words for aromantic or asexual in that time either, but they literally could have made Will say that he really not interested in anyone romantically in one way or another and then confirm that he is aromantic asexual in interviews. Also, it would have made Will's ending not only be about his sexual identity and probably actually show him being an artist instead, too.
Like, even bigots usually don't hate aromantic asexual as much as homosexuality so they wouldn't have gotten as much hate from bigots if they went with that too.
Like, the only reason why didn't go with that instead is probably because they don't even know that aromantic asexual is also a thing that exist. I mean, I wouldn't be surprise that they don't know what pansexual is and probably don't know much about just being asexual too.
I mean, if only Jaiden Animation video of explaining what being aromantic asexual is like came out the literal same year as Stranger Things season 4 came out, because it might have helped them realized that was the better option for them to take Will's story to if have watched that video. Anyway, you can watch Jaiden Animation on that through this link here, by the way: Being Not Straight
I mean, I do actually have a couple of fix-it ideas for Stranger Things where Byler doesn't become canon and one of them is Will being aromantic asexual instead of being gay and this is coming from someone that loves Byler so much too.
Yeah, there is not just Byler in this post, but I feel like I still needed to say this in the Byler community anyway.
