The biggest sign Daniel is not doing well is that there’s no skill to how he’s questioning Lestat. Daniel has always been abrasive, but he’s never just been an asshole and he’s not even really asking him anything. He’s just provoking him. He may as well be saying “and then what?” over and over.

There’s the stuttering question. When he asked Louis if it was raining, it was to remind him that his memory is imperfect and can’t be treated objectively. There are holes in his story. He’s doing it so much with Lestat but never gets anywhere. Shouldn’t he have realised before now that he’s not going to get the whole truth from him? Not ever?

He took Gabrielle’s suggestion of asking about the great conversion so quickly and there was a kind of resignation in the way he asked. He barely made an attempt to get anything from him before that. Lestat has probably worn him down over the last two months, but there was a method with Louis. He was attentive to detail. He caught every little discrepancy. There’s been none of that with Lestat. He’s not even trying at all. I don’t think he can try.

I fear he’s back to being that boy who fumbled over his tape recorder again except now he has all the baggage of fifty additional years of life AND he’s relapsed. He’s off his game more than he’s potentially ever been. No wonder he was so gleeful but getting something out of Lestat. There’s predatory journalism, but Daniel never pushed Louis like that. He pushed him until he was crying, but there was always a point to it. This was nothing. Daniel is unravelling in front of us.

Feeling kind of uncomfortable today. There's this 70 something year old guy at work who's like a megaboss at my workplace. Not directly my boss, but a boss of other people on my floor. He has this "habit" of jumpscaring people at random... or so I thought until I noticed he only does this to women.

He's done it to my colleagues at least once and today he's done it to me a second time while i was filling my bottle of water (and touched my waist). To make matters worst, he's a prosecutor, who used to be my state's "attorney general" (i'm in brazil, that's the closest title to it) and is now acting in the defense of human rights (laughable if it weren't awful, i know).

It's one of those things where, if you tell people, you feel silly, but it makes you feel bad. Should I do something? Notably, it happens to me rarely (twice in the 6 months I've been there), but should I gear up with a response for the next time? Like asking why he doesn't do this to the guys who work with him? Or do I just do it to him once so he can feel bad too (would it send him a wrong message?)? Idk, i just know i feel bad and i wish i knew the appropriate approach to it. Doing nothing feels wrong, I went into law partly because i wish i could do justice (money helps), though I've worked in law for 3 years now and I've done almost everything but justice so far...

god i'm so glad louis killing bruce was as fucked up and empty and hollow as it was. i've been thinking about this moment for years now and like you can't bring her back. you can't go back in time and choose her over lestat and you wouldn't anyway because she was right and it's always been about him. you can't be there for her when it counted. lestat can't be there for her when it counted even though he understood her pain in the most direct sense. no matter how much bruce deserved to die killing him does absolutely nothing for claudia now and was never really going to be anything more than a consolatory gesture for the benefit of the people who weren't there for her when it counted. she was right. it's never been about her.

Lestat clawing his way out of the despair and darkness and trauma and ugliness and misery of his rape and turning....he fought so fucking hard to break through to the other side. He has been enduring for so long and he's not going to be defeated now. That smile and silly face he gives Nicki was so restorative it felt painful.

I love how this episode felt exactly like the book feels at the start. The story is not being told in the same order necessarily (at least i remember it differently), but the vibe is precisely the same as the book
