I think Ren died because he wanted to go back to the time before his life changed and lost Nana... Their relationship. Both of their happiest times were when they were sharing that little apartment.

Making him die here at full speed as he see a little back cat (I guess you could read that as bad luck too ? Like Nana actually was his curse even tho he loved her so much) makes me think that he was escaping more than the paparazzis but just that life that he couldn't stand without drugs. He wanted so bad to go back to that version of Nana he used to know and be happy with... more than trying to fix Trapeness or make it work.

He had his own pride too as a musician but he really loved Nana. And so did she. They just couldn't find a way to make it work as professionals

The sacrifices he had to make were too big and he couldn't stand it, and stand that there was no coming back when it comes to Nana's pride and pain no matter what he did.

He died because he couldn't really go on with the choices he kept making and be with her
