“I never forget, Rose!” he said. He sighed, pulling her into a hug. “I just get busy with work. If they ask me to stay later, I have to take it. We need the money. Rent does not pay itself, and food does not magically appear on the table,” he said. “Speaking of…you must be hungry,” he said, pulling out the key to the door and unlocking it. “I’ll make us something to eat.”
She followed her brother into the house, holding her doll close. “What are you gonna make?” She quietly asked before stopping to take her shoes off, putting them by the door.
She hadn’t really eaten at the school, given it was a kind of poor one even though it was the best one close by. The girl was hungry but didn’t want to admit it.

When Logan stopped by the school on his way home, he was both unimpressed and concerned to hear that Rose had already left. What if she got lost? What if she got hurt?! She was supposed to stay there until he came to get her! She knew that sometimes he ended up working a bit later…he didn’t like it either, but they needed the gold. He sighed in relief when he turned onto their street and saw her sitting on the steps of the house. At least he knew she was alive and safe. “Rose! What are you doing here? You were supposed to stay at school!” he said as he approached her, frowning.
Rose looked up when she heard his voice and the small smile that had started to grow instantly went away, turning into a muted expression. The girl watched her brother speak and come closer. She stood up and looked down, head turned to the left.
“You didn’t show up. I waited for an hour.” She mumbled, tonelessly. “I thought you forgot again.”

Rose watched all the people passing by the little house she and her big brother lived in, while she sat on the stairs leading up into it. She was waiting for her brother to come home from work. He hadn’t picked her up from the little school she attended and the house was locked up so she sat with her favourite doll in wait.

Logan winced as she put pressure on his injury. It was painful, yes…but he was pleased to see that she knew exactly what to do in this situation.
“I…I don’t want to leave you,” he said. “I don’t want to leave you alone.”
“Y-You won't. You’re not allowed. You promised.” Rose mumbled, tears sliding down her cheeks.
The room was becoming a bit darker and making weird noises that frightened the young princess but she wanted to put on a brave face for her brother. He was always there when she was scared. It was her turn.

“That depends…what do you want to do?” he asked, standing up and holding her hand. “There’s still plenty of light left in the day, and the weather is beautiful..we could go for a walk in the garden, or we could go down to the market. I could buy you something that could hopefully keep you entertained when I am not there to do so.”
“We don’t go outside the castle much.. Can we?” She looked up at her brother with a hopeful grin.
“Elliot was telling me about all the shops and booths the other day! He said they were setting up games for people to play soon too!” The girl bounced lightly in excitement, squeezing his hand.
“You got me, and I’m not so bad, right?”
Rose paused in her assault of her brother, having gotten him to the ground before he surrendered. She had attacked him for something he had said that she couldn’t remember anymore.
“I don’t know big brother.. You can be kind of grumpy sometimes.” The princess stated from her place laying on him, her tickle attack ready to restart if he didn’t say something better.

Rose had been sitting on the floor pouting up at her brother with the ‘kicked puppy’ look she had. She wanted him to let her stay with him during an event that she would normally be kept in her room during.
“Really? You’ll let me stay?” Her face morphed into one of hope, a bright smile on her face.

The servants of the castle stopped to stare as their king stormed down the halls, carrying the pillows. He began to check all the closets and the rooms, determined to find his sister; determined to win.
As he finally reached the closet that Rose was hiding in, he had no idea about the trap he was about to walk into.
Rose stood in wait, listening for the telltale clicking of her brother's boots. She picked up two pillows as she stood, grinning. There was even a pillow set up to fall once the door opened onto the head of the offender.
As the door opened, the princess released a battle cry and slung pillows out into the hall, unknowing if they hit her big brother or not but having much fun.
