College is a time for experience and development, and we hope that you do it the right way. In this day and age, there is a lot of information that you must categorize. Images and videos that we once thought were foolproof now can be manipulated at will. While journeying through the internet, we hope that our tool will aid you in creating your own thoughts and opinion.

Many college students are addicted to their smartphones. A recent study done by Psych Central stated that college students spend about 8-10 hours on their phones. That is the same amount of time that a usual college student gets in sleeping. Yes, college students are on their phones a lot but what does that entitle? For starters, college students may have a hard time deciding which news site is real and which one is fake. Ever since Donald Trump claimed that CNN was fake news there have been some controversies with other news sites. Our tool is to allow college students to decipher misinformation and disinformation in images and see if the news site is indeed fake or real.

Incorrect information and the spread of it is a BIG problem, but most of the time we don’t even know that the information we are seeing is fake. Fake pictures and Fake videos, either taken out of context or deliberately made to be fake, are spread all over the internet every day. 

Some people purposely use pictures and videos out of context or create fake pictures and videos. Their goal is to persuade other people and convince them to believe an opinion or judgement, or to confuse and/or give people a certain impression. That fake information goes on the internet and unsuspecting people will believe it’s real or be moved and persuaded easily by it. 

The mis/dis information then gets spread and shared throughout the internet and media. People who don’t check facts and just mindlessly and unknowingly share and spread information are the reason it’s circulated through media and spread to other unsuspecting, easily persuaded, and confused/indecisive people. 

DON’T SHARE WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW

It’s as easy as that. If you don’t know all the facts or you don’t know if it’s real: then don’t share it and spread it.

Check the facts before you wreck the facts 

Most people have shared and spread information without knowing if it was true or what it actually was. It is sometimes hard to tell what is real or fake and it’s very easy to press the ‘share’ button and spread it to everyone else. It’s okay if you have unknowingly spread mis/dis information. We were all at some point naive people who didn’t understand or think too check facts or not share something that looks fake or misguided. We all need to learn.

Since the creation of photography, it has been a consistent source of authentic information. People would believe statements made after seeing photos. Ever since the internet took over ten years ago, people have been able to manipulate photos. Even videos are now being alternated and so people are having trouble believing photos and videos. Here in The Post Mortem Opinion, we will aid you in spotting fake images and videos. Our duty is to put out pure facts so people can form their own opinion on the subject.
