“Alright, alright.” Plank position it is. “Do you never just…enjoy the sunrise?” 

Kakashi’s eyes widened at those words.

…the man I love.

Did Gai really mean that? He couldn’t even begin imagining his rival ever telling any lies, much less when it involved something as delicate as feelings. He doubted Gai even knew how to lie. 

He decided not to talk, not to say anything and instead he threw himself at Gai, wrapping his arms around his shoulders and burying his face in his neck. He wasn’t really that good when it came to words, so he hoped Gai would understand.

“I’m not used to things being this quiet.” 

“On your hands and knees, Iruka-sensei! 

It wasn’t as if he didn’t love Gai. He did, and he knew it, mainly because he would never let anyone touch him the way his rival would. He had never even wanted anyone else, he had never thought of running to anyone else whenever he would need some comfort. 

But he hadn’t planned on confession, not now, not ever. He had been caught up the vulnerable afterglow state, feeling safe and protected. And how could he not? Gai was a man who protected those dear to him, he was that kind of person. 

“If I…If I say I mean it…Would you hate me?” He sighed deeply, almost afraid of looking into Gai’s eyes, choosing instead to sit up and look right above the man’s shoulder.

This moment was never meant to happen. Gai had accepted that long ago, the same time he had accepted that Kakashi just used him to get through the crippling trauma created by shinobi duties. His body brought Kakashi back from the past. He had accepted that.

But, now, he was realizing he had wasted years without Kakashi as a genuine lover.
