The type of blood a person has, is determined by the presence or absence of certain antigens.

Antigens are substances that, if foreign to the body trigger an immune response.

There are over 600 different antigens across more than 36 blood group systems that may be present or absent on our red blood cells.

You have a ‘rare’ blood type if your blood is missing an antigen which is common to most, or if it has an antigen which most don’t have. 

Plasma contains antibodies which fight infections and antigens of the same type.

The 4 main types of blood are determined by the presence or absence of two antigens, A and B, on the surface of the red blood cells. This classification is done by the A,B,O blood group system.

The bloodtype A has the A antigen on the surface of it's red blood cells and the B antibody in it's plasma.

The bloodtype B has the B antigen on the surface of it's red blood cells and the A antibody in it's plasma.

The bloodtype AB has both the A and B antigens on the surface of it's red blood cells and neither A or B antibodies in it's plasma.

The bloodtype O has neither A or B antigens on the surface of it's red blood cells, but both the A and B antibodies in it's plasma.

The second most important classification after the A,B,O blood group system is the Rhesus blood group system, with over 50 antigens.

One of these Rh antigens is the Rh D antigen, the presence of which determines a Rh positive bloodtype and the absence of which determines a Rh negative bloodtype.

The 8 most common bloodtypes are as follows : A+, A-, B+, B-, O+, O-, AB+, AB-.

RhNull blood on the other hand has none of the Rh antigens. It is the result of certain mutations.

It is extremely rare, with fewer than 50 individuals known to have RhNull blood in the 50 years after it's discovery, and only 9 active donors.

I associated it with Antari based on this quote:

"He was, after all, Antari. And Antari could speak to blood. To life. To magic itself. The first and final element, the one that lived in all and was of none."

RhNull blood can be donated to anybody, especially useful to people with rare Rh antigens, following only the A,B,O blood group system donation rules and that's why the term Golden Blood is used for it. On the other hand, people with this blood type cannot receive transfusions from anybody but other people with the RhNull bloodtype, following the same donation rules.

Magic is not hereditary, so I like to assume that after developing Antari magic they lose the Rh antigens through mutation.

And since I couldn't help myself, I assigned every character I kept track of, a bloodtype.

Most of the bloodtypes I assigned were based on my own interpretrations, but I did my best to mind the rules by which they are inherited.

i am one hundred percent convinced that kell and lila alternate between being the big spoon or the little spoon - i know some people think lila would be strictly big spoon but lemme sprinkle some concepts at ya…

we know kell is more in touch with his emotions than lila is, (slight aside but i also have a lot of thoughts about how their childhood traumas have lead to them being in almost opposite situations with how they handle their emotions) and he clearly loves to show that he cherishes her with touch, like when he protectively wraps his arms round her waist on the horse, when he kisses her hair before she As Tascen’s to the sanctuary, and how he holds her against his chest after Rosenal

being treasured by someone like this is obviously a very new thing for lila, and something she’s never really felt from someone before, and so, yes, i think being little spoon may be a bit of a change of pace for her at first - it’s likely she’d worry that having someone want to hold her protectively like this would suggest they think she’s weak or can’t protect herself, but with kell she’d very quickly realise this is absolutely never the case, he just enjoys holding her close and wants her to feel loved, because she really is

i think very soon lila would figure out that she loves being treated like this by kell (i think we start to see this in the scene where ‘she was tired of running away, so she was running into kell. and he caught her.’ *SOBS*) and hence why she is able to properly fall asleep in his arms

so she’d very quickly become accustomed to being the little spoon with kell, bc he is her safe space, and she knows he would never think less of her for wanting to be wrapped up protectively in his arms

also pre-kell, lila would always ‘sleep’ with her back against the wall to feel safer…imagine how much safer she’d feel sleeping with her back against kell and his arms round her 🥺

and kell would definitely understand how much it means for lila to feel comfortable enough with someone to let them hold her like that! it would make him so happy knowing that she finally had a safe space where she lets herself be vulnerable and at ease enough to be cuddled like that, and knowing that HE is that safe space - he’d know that she understands he just wants to cherish her unconditionally

equally, i think they’d also love to switch these roles!! something i think is incredibly special about their relationship, and that is particularly important to kell is that other than rhy, lila is the only person to ever treat him as himself. as just kell. not as ‘aven’ or a prince, or antari, or rhy’s lifeline.

with lila, kell is totally free to be entirely himself. he wouldn’t feel as though he had to put up a brave front with her, because she has seen him at his absolute worst and stuck by his side.

she’d want to show him this. and talking about her emotions is something she really struggles with (understandably), but physical touch is a way she’s clearly more comfortable with expressing herself with, eg in agos when kell wants to kiss her, but she kisses him first

kell is the biggest softie in all the worlds and so he would adore being cuddled by lila too, just knowing she’s chosen to be by his side and wanted to hold him would mean a lot to him

ok so it’s new year’s eve in red london and it’s not long till midnight and kell and lila sneak off to kells balcony to get away from the crowds and parades and all the other stuff rhy will most definitely have arranged (bc this is dramatic bitch rhy maresh we’re talking about, and we love him for it, obviously)

the two of them are bundled up in their coats and each others arms on the balcony overlooking the celebrations and they can hear rhy starting the countdown to midnight and lila turns away from the view and pulls kell a bit closer and brings her hand up to his face, caressing her thumb over his cheek that’s red from the cold

and she takes in his blue and black gaze and smiles at the simple fact that she feels safe and content with him - feelings she’d never thought she’d get to feel with anyone - and kell smiles back thinking of how glad he is that she robbed him that night and how free and loved she makes him feel

and her smile shifts to a gentle smirk and when he asks ‘what?’ with a smile still on his face she explains that in grey london it’s tradition to kiss someone at it strikes midnight on the new year

‘why?’ he asks

and she shrugs and answers ‘for luck’

and he wraps his arms completely around her and slumps his forehead against hers (BECAUSE ITS THEIR THING) and he laughs contentedly against her because he knows they’re both thinking of their first kisses which were also for luck

and just like when she first heard him laugh she thinks about how it’s such a wonderful sound and she takes triumph in knowing that now rhy isn’t the only one who can make kell show his true smile

and when rhy’s countdown reaches zero and the fireworks begin they crash into each others warmth, coats and hands and mouths colliding

and in that kiss they let each other know how deeply they care for one another, and how happy they both are to be going into the new year side by side, no matter what the worlds throw at them <3
