like what if you were a scrappy middle school boy from manhattan who liked skateboarding and led zeppelin and you loved your mom but you worried you were disappointing her and you everybody tells you you’re a screw-up and you’re neurodivergent and have a learning disability and you keep getting kicked out of school and blamed for it and you feel crazy your entire life because of these things that happen to you that no one else can see. and then your mom (the only person who ever advocated for you) gets taken away and you’re dropped off in this brand new place that’s supposed to be for kids *like you* but you don’t fit in there either. everyone wants to talk about your dad and who he is but you’ve never cared about that. what about the fact that your mom is missing and everyone’s saying she’s dead but you know she’s not dead???!!! and THEN you find out you weren’t even supposed to be born!! that your life breaks some ancient supernatural agreement for the safety of mankind!! so now you’re a screw-up and a misfit in the place for screw-ups and misfits! not only are you to son of a god you’re the son of one of the three most powerful and most dangerous gods! and they send you away again to do some quest for the sake of that new godly authority you don’t care about but you’re motivated because you still think your mom is out there. and you’re paired up with your awkward friend from middle school who was actually a saytr and this really intense blonde girl who arbitrarily doesn’t like you because of your parentage (but actually because she’s projecting her mentor figure who almost died and got immortalized as a tree instead onto you). oh and then your older mentor character foil who instilled a distrust of the system in you betrays you and tries to kill you with a poisonous scorpion

TBH we give tumblr a lot of shit rightfully so but tags is such a good feature like i need to say this. under my breath. but i need to say it. and youll listen. youll fucking love it even

they should make a frowny face with three hearts emoji for when you want to convey that even through a very bad mood or tough situation you still feel a wave of affection for the person you are texting

idk if this is a contreversial take or not but i think that the ideal internet experience is being able to remove specific things (triggers, nsfw, gore) if you truly dont want to see them but overall being also shown things you aren’t interested in. i think one of my fave things about tumblr is seeing like 50% of my dash be about fandoms im not in, bands i dont like and quotes from books i dont want to read rather than this endless feedback loop of tiktok showing me ‘exactly what i want to see’ in a trap to keep me online as long as possible and blind to communities outside of my own. i want a mix of curating my own experience and a healthy dose of content i don’t already know i want to see, yknow?

"Suzanne Collins gave Coriolanus Snow a tragic backstory and made him sympathetic!" So close. Actually, she put the reader in the POV of an extremely privileged character whose thoughts and views and morals still ultimately aligned with fascism, who constantly fell back on those philosophies no matter how many brief moments of humanity he felt for the Districts. She wrote a realistic human being who aligned himself with the status quo and benefited from it. She demonstrated a character who did not become kinder or more empathetic through his suffering, but instead became angrier at the indignity of it, and punished the ones he saw as "deserving" it sevenfold. She showed you, the reader, that those in power know exactly how much the oppressed suffer, and do it anyway, even if they briefly suffer the same.
