This is a quick pencil test I did to try out an idea before putting it into 3D.  It’s of course missing a lot of drawings but I still think it turned out to be a funny little test.   I think I will be doing more pencil tests to support my motion ideas in 3D.  I’ve been super inspired by Coco lately, namely Dante.  I really want to push my animations and understanding of motion, so I’m using this project as a way to challenge myself.  Learning technical skills is one thing, but trying to shape the way you think is really really hard!

Quick elephant sketch to warm up before animating.  I’m so used to animating Indian elephants that switching over to African was a bit challenging!  Very different back and head shapes.  

One thing I’ve learned during this elephant project is how important it is to take a break from animating and go back to studying your subject- look at skeletons and photos and especially videos.   I have still so much to learn about drawing elephants, but I’m making progress !
