Research has shown that pleasure affects nutrient absorption. In a 1970s study of Swedish and Thai women, it was found that when the Thai women were eating their own (preferred) cuisine, they absorbed about 50% more iron from the meal than they did from eating the unfamiliar Swedish food. And the same was true in the reverse for the Swedish women. When both groups were split internally and one group given a paste made from the exact same meal and the other was given the meal itself, those eating the paste absorbed 70% less iron than those eating the food in its normal state.
Pleasure affects our metabolic pathways; it’s a facet of the complex gut-brain connection. If you’re eating foods you don’t like because you think it’s healthy, it’s not actually doing your body much good (it’s also unsustainable, we’re pleasure-seeking creatures). Eat food you enjoy, it’s a win-win.

PLEASURE IS A NECESSARY PART OF HUMAN HEALTH, BOTH PSYCHOLOGICALLY AND PHYSICALLY
“The worst distance between two people is misunderstanding.”
— Law of Attraction
“I saw this and thought of you” has that wallop of tenderness in it in the same way receiving presents not on your birthday, but because they saw it. And thought of you.
Some version of the phrase What you love, you mention exists. And maybe they have no passion for impressionist painter Mary Cassatt or Golden Age super hero comic covers or Pusheen the cat. But you mentioned them, you made a little speech and maybe feel mildly embarrassed about having ranted about it for a bit long or bit much.
And really, they might not have any kind of passion for art or comics or stuffed animals, they don’t “get it.” But you think of Pusheen, and they think of you, and we are all connecting over entire oceans of self and faulty words, infinitely imperfect language and the inherent isolation of consciousness. Humanity makes symbols of our cluttered, decaying world with every breath.
It’s just a movie, just a toy, just a thing, but we are experts in patterns and understanding what a thing is not. Your mother covers your cut in a Spider-Man Band-Aid because it’s all you talk about at 7. Your uncle buys an entire gallon of green tea flavored ice cream despite the fact you are the only one that eats it. A friend buys you a shirt of a horror movie they themselves can’t watch.
Clumsy words and clumsy minds. The world would go on without ice cream or cartoon Band-Aids. And yet. And yet. We are experts in patterns and attempting to overcome the horrors of self, alone, and consciousness, continuing.
It is not the thing itself. It is this, only this:
“I saw this. I thought of you, I thought of you, I thought of you.”

You know one of the shittiest parts of chronic pain?
Sympathy has an expiration date.
If you’re hurting because you broke your leg, people can sympathize with you, because there’s an end-date. Eventually your leg will heal and you’ll be okay again. People will coo and coddle and bring you chocolates and sign your cast because they know that’s emotional labor that they will only have to perform temporarily.
But if you have a chronic condition that causes you daily pain, after awhile, people get annoyed with having to deal with you. They ask you what’s wrong, and when you reply with the same thing that was wrong last week, or the week before, or the month before, you eventually get an incredulous, “Still?”
Or maybe they’re not that overt. Maybe instead they go, “Oh, just that. Okay.” As if today’s pain should somehow be fine for them to ignore because it’s nothing new. No need to worry: it’s just the same old same old.
Let me tell you: Pain never gets easy to handle. It’s not like people with chronic pain develop an immunity to it, or that we stop feeling it. Sure, some of us get better at ignoring it, or better at living around it, but honestly? Most of us just get better at hiding it, because we get tired of feeling like an emotional burden to everyone around us.
But that doesn’t mean that we’re not hurting, and it sort of sucks that long-term pain, in addition to all the other fun things it entails, also eventually comes with a revoked right to be sympathized with, or even just treated like something other than a whiny attention-grabbing faker (or worse: a drug-seeker).
Chronic pain is real. And it sucks. And one of the worst parts about it is knowing it’s never going to end.
It would just be cool if people could try understand that, I guess.

I find it endlessly fascinating that most humans just want someone who will get up in the middle of the night to close the windows with them when it starts down pouring. We want someone to dry our dishes after we wash them. We just want another person to do mundane activities with. We want to tell someone how the copy machine broke at work and we want to listen to how Debra is causing office drama again. We just want something so simple. We want human connection and honesty and to be bored with someone else instead of bored alone.
it's soooo messed up how you have to go and do work to get money. im literally a cute girl

Individualism is a poison upon this earth.
You and i overlap in more categories than we remain seperate. A mirror is held up every time you face another human. I am you and you are me bitch
Looking at the notes is so fucking funny cause literally everyone is like “no thank I am the exception” lol no you are not. All your experiences are cosmically mundane and you gotta learn to see the beauty in that instead of feeling threatened.
tastes are subjective, except for mine which set the standard. hope this helps
my overwhelming need to be attractive at all times vs the voices of mary oliver and mitski telling me i don’t exist to be consumed, fight

your future self loves you. they dream of hugging you and wiping your tears away. they wish they could tell you stories of your future, just to see your smile and relief. they wish they could squish your cheeks and tell you how lovable you are. they miss you. they listen to playlists you made just to experience it again. they wrote you a long love letter too, but you will never read it. you are so loved.
