Demon Slayer is not carried by animation. From what I infer, its genuine loyal fan base stems from the portrayal of emotions by Koyoharu. Love, empathy, guilt and more. That alone is enough to grasp onto because that effect is way more meaningful and special than a good plot to us humans. A good plot being said, Demon Slayer’s plot is not bad. Yes it can be simple but the ratio of an extraordinary emotional delivery and a straightforward plot align perfectly.

Why is this? Think about it— if an anime had a decent plot, a start, build up, climax, resolution and ending with hardly any emotional impact to relate to, would that realistically stick with you within the next six months to three years? Based on human psychology, it wouldn’t. This is because humans are pulled towards anything in the form of relatability. Relatability is a form of emotional validation. Such as, for example, when Tanjiro tried convincing Giyu to not give up or blame himself for Sabitos death, with a breaking voice. It portrays a deeply melancholic atmosphere. Suggesting a part of Giyu wants to give up but there’s also an optional chance to..not. Simply because of Tanjiros presence. The buzzing uncertainty and anticipation is terrific.

That’s enough to capture anyone’s attention. On another hand, a scene with the villain and main character fighting with sound effects and music, built up by 3 seasons with nothing but plot and the absence of emotional relatability, is no where near the level of the average Demon Slayer scene.

Yuta who always towers over you. Making you feel oh, so helpless. So close you can see every feature on his beautiful face.

Yuta who’s just so tall, his height an endless emphasiser on his power over you. What a hypnotising fact.

Yuta’s eyes that meet yours casually always cause you to freeze up. THE Yuta looking at you makes you feel like fainting.
