And it gets more terrifying when you realize that one of the strongest powers of the Ring is to turn people against each other, and that even if it didn’t, the Ring and the Quest still put Frodo in a psychological state where he can barely keep himself sane, let alone love anyone or anything other than the Ring. In fact, I’m fairly sure the Ring tried to persuade Frodo to kill Sam far more often than the books shows - the Ring tends to encourage murder, from what we see. Instead of listening to the Ring, Frodo somehow manages to keep in the back of his mind that he can trust Sam more than he can trust himself, and I have no idea how Frodo can resist the temptation to think his trust is misplaced.

And sure, one could say, “Oh, but Sam has to understand it, so it’s not all that bad” but you have to remember Sam is a plain, non-Tookish hobbit with no inclination or skills for adventuring around and yet he has to become the entire Fellowship. Name one thing the Fellowship did for Frodo that Sam doesn’t also do. He has to advise, guide and protect him as well as keep his hope alive and remind him of who he is. The amount of pressure he’s under is incredible, and unlike, say, Aragorn, he has no experience to draw from. Plus, Merry and Pippin tend to rely on each other, while Frodo relies on Sam, but Sam himself hardly seems to have anyone to turn to for strength. I’m not saying Frodo doesn’t support him as well as he’s able - actually, Frodo is remarkably consistent about taking care of Sam from Book I to Book VI. But what Frodo is capable to offer (see the paragraph above) is far from being all that Sam needs. And actually, in the last stages of the Quest, Sam is basically living a one-sided relationship under the worst possible conditions, and that his devotion doesn’t even waver despite that just blows my mind.

That the Quest was successful is one of the most incredible and beautiful things that Tolkien wrote. Frodo and Sam walked straight into the Land where no love can exist and managed to become closer to each other than they had been. It’s the biggest fuck you Sauron probably ever got. No, seriously. Frodo and Sam beat a Maia basically by cuddling a lot and talking about food. Like, what the fuck??? I mean, if I told you someone could write a 1000 pages novel in which a pacifist and his gardener beat a minor god via supporting each other emotionally, would you believe me?

in may the question paper for NEET leaked. that's the national medical entrance exam. over 2.2 million students took it. cancelled. years of studying, families' savings poured into coaching, gone overnight because someone sold the paper. students died by suicide after. these were kids who wanted to be doctors.

and out of that came a protest movement. a gen z group called the cockroach janta party, started by a 30 year old named abhijeet dipke, got 22 million instagram followers within DAYS. they've been doing a sit-in at jantar mantar in delhi demanding education minister dharmendra pradhan resign.

and then there's sonam wangchuk. if you've watched 3 idiots, he's the real engineer the character was based on. built solar schools in ladakh. invented ice stupas so himalayan villages have water. spent his whole life on education. he's 59 and he's been on hunger strike for 17+ days now. reporters went to see him this week and he was too weak to talk. and the troll armies are calling him "anti national" and "foreign funded". a man starving himself for other people's children. that's the thing here, anyone who asks a question is suddenly a traitor.

it's not one incident, it's everywhere you look:

• infrastructure worth thousands of crores failing within months of the ribbon cutting. tunnels collapsing in regions where heavy rain is a guarantee, not a surprise.

• youth unemployment near 10% for ages 15 to 29, 13.6% in cities. in a country of 1.42 billion where more than half the population is young.

• only about the top 3% of indians earn above 10 lakh a year. meanwhile billionaire wealth keeps ballooning and the headlines celebrate it.

• manipur burned for over two years. an ethnic conflict, tens of thousands displaced, and the prime minister barely said the word manipur while it happened.

• journalists raided. critics' houses bulldozed. activists sitting in jail for years without trial under laws like UAPA. our press freedom ranking has cratered.

• even the petrol is a fight now, ethanol blending pushed through while drivers complain about their engines and get no straight answers.

and through all of it, the PM, who came to power on religious polarisation (americans, sound familiar?), travels abroad for photo ops and has not held one single open press conference in over a decade. not one.

what i'm asking:

if you're not indian: share this. our media mostly won't cover any of it because the big outlets are owned by the same billionaires the government serves. the only reason wangchuk's fast is getting any coverage is people refusing to look away.

if you ARE indian: speak up even if you're comfortable. especially if you're comfortable. join the protests. add to this, correct me, translate it. staying quiet is a choice when nothing in this post touches your life.

india is not "dirty". india was robbed, and it's being robbed again, from the inside this time. but it's also the country where a 59 year old will starve for strangers' kids and 22 million young people will rally behind a party literally named after cockroaches, because cockroaches survive everything.

we can still save her. but only loudly.

They both just wanted someone else to be excited about Their Thing too. They both just wanted someone to sick around with them.

You can hear all their emotions in their voices and Dustin is so disappointed and Will is disappointed too but at least he has a little bit of hope even if he seems to know its not gonna happen.

Dustin just wanted one person to be excited about his new relationship and Will is watching absolutely everyone in his life but him get a relationship.

Will wants to do something fun like they used to because watching everyone get girlfriends isnt fun so he asked Dustin. Dustin wants someone to be happy for him over Suzie so he turned to Will last and Will was enthusiastic earlier but he's spent all summer with mileven and lumax and jancy and all day listening to Dustin talk about Suzie.

Will probably waited all summer for the one other person not in a relationship to get back from science camp to play DnD or just do anything where he wasnt third wheeling probably and Dustin probably waited all summer to get back from science camp to tell his friends about Suzie, for his friends to be happy like with Mike and Lucas, specifically after the Snowball.

Will wants to play their childhood game because the last few years of his childhood were taken by the Upside Down and Dustin is growing up with the rest of their friends and everyone else but they've both been left behind by their friends.

Its just them who are standing on that hill.

They were so close to almost having the same emotions and they wanted very similar things but they dont interact ever again until the Byers family get back from California. I wish theyd gotten to talk after this scene at some point in s3.

I think its part of why i like those aus where Will is part of scoops troop so much.

They're the only ones left on that hill. They've been left behind together. Theyre so sad and small and everything is moving so fast and they've been left behind together but they still walk away from each other. They still go to be sad and small and watch the world move too fast alone instead of together.

They couldve stuck together but they also coundntve because they want opposing things, because they're different people. They were THIS close to understanding each other but they just couldnt, it wasn't going to happen

Theyre both hurting and neither of them are at fault

"its not my fault you dont like girls" well Dustin does and Dustin grew up, so to say, and Dustin was still left behind and barely ever interacted with the main Party ever again

Dustin wanted people to be excited about his girlfriend and in s4 and 5 he was all about DnD. Will wanted to play DnD and in s4 and 5 he was all about romance.

Dustin never got anyone being excited about his girlfriend and then he lost Eddie and was bullied for Hellfire. Will got into a fight with his friends that was caused by DnD and then was proved that he cant be in a relationship, that he had to just get over it.

Dustin stopped talking about his girlfriend and Will stopped asking to play DnD. Dustin got told to stop wearing his DnD tshirt and Will got told to get over the boy he loves

I could go on and on

This is one of only two times when they talk to each other one on one in the entire show.

Maybe tomorrow we can play DnD, or something fun, like we used to?
