I am certainly missing a few important events here, but I think my thrust is clear enough. These are all bells that cannot be unrung, events that shape and define the world in their wake.

It’s been so long since I watched that one! My favourite part is when Tony cutely throws up in the sink LOL. It’s tough, because Tony is someone I struggle to take seriously in a lot of dramas (unfortunate as it was something he was trying to overcome in his roles, but just the reality of watching him act), and it doesn’t help when the story calls for a much more camp tone, and no one is committing to it.

I’ve also never read the book! So I can’t comment on details that have been dropped.

I'm going to push back slightly on this. To me, it's less that his twink death hit -- body wise, he looks fine. But through the productions in the 1980's, especially the really embarrassing stuff, he's wearing this brown tweed that does nothing for his complexion, and makes him look muddy and blurred. He is a Winter, and clearly knew it, so I don't know what in Ghu's name convinced him that brown tweed, the second-worst color on a Winter, was a good idea. The absolute worst is shades of yellow, especially pale ones like ivory or cream -- it makes a Winter wearer look jaundiced!

Note, he is not wearing brown tweed in Someone Behind the Door. It appears primarily brown, but if you look closely at it, you can see that the effect is created by dark red and ice blue on a white field. The sweater is more of a blue-gray heather, just the thing for a Winter's complexion!

For your pains and his, have some Tony in sweaters.

Also, yes, I agree with your take about Lisa, and I feel the film backs us up, although not necessarily on purpose. Tony weighs about as much as her coat, and is so immature (and pretty), that my thoughts are basically:

You're Sofia Loren, you can put him on the dashboard of your coupe like an overpriced latte.

Or, hit him with your handbag when he tries to threaten you. He'll fall right into line.

This is the story of a woman realizing she can no longer keep a full-time rentboy, and the ensuing fallout.

If she just told him, "Bob, one day you're going to be forty", things would have straightened out much quicker. Although that would have, no doubt, been responded to by Bob with shrieks of horror, and threats to talk to his union rep for Parisian twinks. ("Oh, I may be an expat, but I have rights!")

To be fair to Lisa, he was straight up abusive to her, and she had every right to do whatever she had to do to get him outta there, but they not once actually communicated to each other what their problems with the relationship even were. She jumped straight to killing him 😭 And I’m sorry, but aside from deflecting his limp-wristed slaps, even I could probably have taken Bobby in a fight and won.
