Starting with some lighthearted stuff. Brats. James is 100% a brat tamer. Does he knows this by the time of SMTO? No. But he will swiftly learn with how many James LI OCs I've seen that I can describe simply as "Brat".

Post SMTO he would (canonically) fuck you in his office in a skyscraper. So we can assume office romance and roleplay may not be off the table.

He (canonically) is into Master/Servant roleplay. Guess some of that princely energy never left him.

Is a top like...97% of the time. Not a switch type but if you ask reeeaaally nicely he might let you take control.

Has a high sexual libido even for a demon. But don't worry my ace and/or sex repulsed girlies, not being down to fuck is not a deal breaker! It's just a rough adjustment.

Speaking of, this is where I get a wee bit deep. James's sex drive, imo, comes from a variety of sources. First, part of it is just natural. Even if raised in the healthiest of homes, he would have turned out a bit hornier than most. Second, being a prince and a sex demon normalized sex for him. This applies to most of his brothers to a certain degree but the need to keep his energy up means that sex was commonplace. It's just a part of the motions or a way to vent out untold emotions.

Speaking of... The third, and most important, reason behind his high sex drive is that's how he's able to voice the emotions he represses. In the demon world, specifically within the walls of the Eastern castle, strong emotions were a sign of weakness. Most emotions would be frowned upon by the king and the one emotion he allows (anger) is frowned upon by the queen. Sex is how he relieves those emotions. Or at least it was until they got to the far more puritanical human world.

James prides himself on being the perfect gentleman, so if the society around him declares that part of that role is to hold yourself back sexually, he'll do it unless necessary. But with that came the loss of his main coping mechanism. It was inevitable that his emotions, lust included, would start leaking. If allowed to express his emotions to the fullest with his lover, his roughness and high libido would reflect the years of pent up emotions he has.

Is this a safe space to say I headcanon james struggles with drinking to cope

Not at first, of course. It starts slow, James pre human world wouldn't even think of getting drunk. There was too much danger to it.

But, years go by, hes in the human world, putting on this mask of being well adjusted and healed from his past. Meanwhile hes staying up hours after his S/O, drinking his thoughts away in the library with a book in his hand.

And of course, no one would know at first. But there's signs, and his gaze always gets a little distant when other characters like Aron or Darcy are called out on their own substance use. Or when Sam begs for an answer on how he ignores all of the shit from their past because even he can't hold it together.

But there's a little relief to being able to drink away the perfect mask at the end of the night. And everytime he slips it back on the next morning, he tells himself he doesn't have a problem.

But no mask can be worn so often without wearing down eventually.
