Apparently grieving too loudly is a problem. Apparently grieving too quietly is too.
I wasn’t distant because I didn’t care. I was trying to survive the worst pain I’d ever known.
The cruelest part isn’t even that you left. It’s that you saw the worst moment of my life, mistook my grief for a lack of love, and still expected me to carry your emotional needs when I was barely able to carry my own.
Grief isn’t a lack of love. It’s what love looks like after someone you can’t live without is gone.
If someone can watch you lose your mother and still decide that your grief is an inconvenience, they were never capable of loving you when you needed them most.
I deserved compassion, not an ultimatum. I deserved support, not abandonment.
