This scene was nondescript on the type of flowers that were blooming in the king's chambers as they were professing their vows to each other. But given how they were both adamant that their marriage would be utilitarian and short lived, I feel like the room blooming over head was a sign that it was more permanent than they realized, hence the wisteria and its meaning. 🤭

'They'd do anything for their lover'- Meh. Boring and overused. Implies romantic love is the most important thing and usually, leads to a plot that is very recycled.
'They'd do anything for their sibling'- Fascinating. Not as popular. Usually has more variety. Automatically brings into the picture one's relationship with other family members, and each other's significant others or the lack thereof. Is usually more complex. Does not take away from the importance of a romantic partner. Shows the power of friendship/ family. Perfect. Give me more.

I don't like to ascribe too much of a writer's art to their personal life, but Holly Black has mentioned having a sister who died when she was in her teens and like... every one of her protagonists is like 'I have this sibling that I Cannot communicate with, but also I would do anything for them, and must constantly sacrifice for them, and they will never know'.
Jude and Taryn. Oak and Jude. Hazel and Ben, Jared and Simon, Charlie and Posy, Wren and Rebecca. The cycle just keeps repeating.
People demand fans of colour to be soft & gentle & have articulate thought out criticisms at all times. Never be wrong never be loud never be mean you have to coddle White fans and creatives, otherwise you're part of the problem. Never mind that your whole experience in fandom has been one macroaggression after another. Never mind that fandom can never be your escapism, because the discrimination you face in real life is often present in both the media you love and the fandom you participate in. Never mind that even when you are soft & gentle & articulate people will still get angry. Just shut up and let White people go to their beautiful fantasy world where people like you don't exist

Nowadays when I watch it read something for the first time, one of my first actions upon finishing is to scroll the Tumblr tags for it and kind of obsessively reblog anything that catches my eye (for things I enjoyed lol). It was such a huge letdown to find that what felt like 75% of content posted about Sinners, (a movie with a majority black cast, ABOUT black characters, based on important moments in black history), was about the white guy. fucking despicable.
