What is the Great Replacement Conspiracy and why is it relevant to the United States ethnic cleansing of migrants?

The Great Replacement is a white nationalist conspiracy theory originating with French fascist Renaud Camus, which states that immigration and declining birthrates are an intentional act of demographic replacement of whites (“white genocide,” a related conspiracy) by the international Jewish conspiracy to subvert western civilization and capitalism, a modernization of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion/Judeo-Bolshevik/Cultural Marxism conspiracies. It is rooted in older fears of “white extinction” that began becoming popular in the 19th century. It is related to “the Demographic Question.”

The Great Replacement has been promoted repeatedly by Elon Musk on Twitter as owner and by fascist propagandist Tucker Carlson, including on his Fox News’ show (the highest rated cable program in U.S. History in 2020 with a peak of 4.4 million nightly viewers).

This Conspiracy Has a Bodycount: ‘The Great Replacement’ as Inspiration for Fascist Murders. These acts were organized and praised on 4/8chan where the attacker’s racist manifestos would be shared shortly before or after their attacks:

2017 Charlottesville ‘Unite the Right’ rally killing of antifascist Heather Heyer with a car by a white supremacist, was preceded by torch-lit chants of “blood and soil” (Nazi Germany reference) and “Jews will not replace us” (Great Replacement reference) the night before, they also harassed a Black church and synagogue in the area - 1 dead;

2018 Pittsburgh Tree of Life Synagogue shooting was motivated by the conspiracy, with the shooter convinced the synagogue’s role in the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (20th century era organization that shifted focus from Jewish refugees to all refugees) was material evidence of the role of Jews in demographically replacing white people with migrants - 11 dead;

2019 Christchurch Mosque shootings targeting Muslims were motivated by the conspiracy, cited by name in the shooter’s manifesto - 51 dead;

2019 El Paso Walmart shooting targeting Latinos was motivated by the conspiracy, cited by name in the shooter’s manifesto - 23 dead;

2022 Buffalo supermarket shooting targeting the Black community was motivated by the conspiracy, cited by name in the shooter’s manifesto whose act was directly inspired by the Christchurch shootings - 10 dead.

Total deaths: 95 since 2017, 96 counting Heather Heyer.

How popular is this conspiracy? According to this 2022 poll by the Southern Poverty Law Center, a disturbing number of Americans across party lines agree with core fundamental aspects of the conspiracy.

But this is a conspiracy that is not merely referenced in white nationalist attacks on the public but has become an integral part of state recruitment propaganda for Department of Homeland Security and their ethnic cleansing efforts of migrants.

As you can see, DHS is directly appealing to the sensibilities and conspiratorial racism of open white nationalists in an explicit attempt to recruit them. Also notable is their "America after 100,000,000 deportations" post because there are only an estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants. This was never about civil violations of immigration law, but about ethnically cleansing the nation to transform it into a demographically homogenous white ethnostate.

The Great Replacement conspiracy inspires mass murders, is believed by a significant portion of Americans, and is referenced in recruitment campaigns to hire more goons for the ethnic cleansing of migrants.

This is not a fringe belief. It is a fundamental organizing principle and recruitment strategy of both the vigilante white nationalist street movement and the bourgeois state in crisis. Those 96 people were just the beginning.

I don’t understand the logical rationale of white nationalists in America. Like white people aren’t native to this land. What about native Americans as they actually are? You can’t send them “back” to anywhere. If they’re so concerned about “preserving the white race” why don’t they just move back to Europe?

I wouldn’t doubt if with the number 100,000,000 they believe there’s that many or more of the immigrants in America as the white nationalist ideology relies on hyperboles “mass migration” “white people are a minority” etc, but assuming they know that’s more than the number of immigrants in America, 100,000,000 deportations is more than the POC population of America, which raises question of what white people are they planning to deport? I’m assuming the answer probably includes Jewish people (they don’t consider European Jews white) and white people with POC spouses (as I’ve seen them call them race traitors and say they should be sent back with their spouse) and possibly even just white people who are anti racist. I feel like it might also include LGBT, disabled, and mentally ill white people since even though they’re white they see us (I am lgbt, mentally ill, AND disabled) as “impure.” They don’t even care about other white people, they care about making America into a white supremacist cult.

For the birthrates thing, birthrates of all races have declined due to the economy, but they single out white births declining because that’s what fits their narrative.

The fact that government officials are promoting this ideology feels very dystopian, I guess history repeats itself as America is heading towards being a fascist country.

The idea that autistic people don’t have social skills is neuronormative and ableist. We can have social skills, they’re just different than allistic people’s. The fact you describe them as “subpar” is especially ableist because it implies we’re lesser than allistic people. Autistic people don’t lack empathy, and if they do it’s not because of their autism. Showing empathy differently is mistaken for not having empathy.

Almost anybody who walks with a cane will tell you their ability to walk is "subpar." Autism is one of the only disabilities I know of where anyone acts like the deficits that literally define the condition are totally not deficits, guys. Also, note, I never said no autistic anywhere has any social skills or empathy. All I said is that they have impaired social skills and empathy. Because that has literally always been the nexus of the diagnostic criteria. I don't know why you're getting on my case about this. And if one's "different" social skills still prevent them from interacting effectively with the vast majority of people, then how can they even be called social skills? Finally, I understand that being accused of having poor empathy can upset someone. Before we go any further, let's make one thing clear: empathy and compassion are not the same. Empathy means the ability to identify with someone's mental or emotional state. I knew a guy who cheated on his wife, who said their marriage had been unhappy for years, she never listened to him, and spent their money in a hedonistic fashion. I empathized with him. I understood his motivations to be intimate with someone who was willing to hear him out. I still don't think adultery is ever justified, and that his wife was right to file for divorce. This is empathy sans compassion. At the same time, a relative of mine, "Ann," has BPD, substance abuse problems, a deadbeat husband, five adult children who want nothing to do with her, and last I checked was homeless. Her sister, "Lynn," who has never experienced any of these things for herself, has cried her eyes out multiple times over Ann's well-being, and has offered to house or at least financially assist her, but Ann turns her down every time. This is despite Lynn admitting that it is difficult to get in Ann's head and understand her thought process. This is compassion (arguably) sans empathy. I certainly have never suggested there is an entire thirtieth* or so of the population that does not experience compassion. But autistic people have a hard time understanding what other people are thinking. Like with the social skills, this is simply an integral part of the diagnostic criteria, and always has been.

My medical history is frankly none of your business. Given the last sentence in your post, however, part of me thinks that even if I was part of your world, none of the above would make any difference.

*The matter of how over- or under-diagnosed autism is, and among whom, is outside the scope of this reply.

Those are outdated criteria. And the issue isn’t we lack social skills, it’s that our society has rigid standards for what counts as social skills. Not all cultures have that and may interact differently and even encourage things we associate with autism (like being blunt and honest instead of sugar coating or hinting). It’s usually easy for us to interact with other autistic or other neurodivergent people, which shows the issue isn’t a lack of social skills but difference social skills. Your whole mindset is the premise of why ABA exists. When autistic people are constantly criticized for the way we socialize, especially if we were put in ABA to literally force us to stop socializing the way we naturally do, that stunts us from socializing naturally so the issue isn’t our autism.

We are able to empathize with people, but people assume we don’t have empathy because of how it looks to them and not how we actually feel, they judge us by our tone and body language and not how we actually feel even if our words clearly show empathy.

If terminology is your main hang-up here, would “compromised” or “limited” work better? And the brain is a physical part of the body. Unless you want to go back to the days autism was believed to be caused by “refrigerator mothers,” I don’t see why we can’t compare disabilities that affect one part of the body with a disability that affects another part of the body.

The current diagnostic criteria for autism in both the DSM 5 and ICD 11. The DSM mentions “failure of back-and-forth conversation,” “failure to initiate or respond to social interactions,” “deficits in developing, maintaining, and understanding relationships,” and “absence of interest in peers,” and that these symptoms must “cause clinically significant impairment.” The ICD-11 mentions persistent deficits in “understanding and use of language in social contexts and ability to initiate and and sustain reciprocal social conversation,” “ability to imagine and respond to the feelings, emotional states and attitudes of others,” “ability to make and sustain typical peer relationships,” along with “lack of adaptability to new experiences and circumstances.” Tell me, are there cultures somewhere where none of the above deficits would cause a problems? As for ABA, I have yet to hear ND activists propose an alternative solution for children who feel the brunt of these deficits.

Finally, I yet again have to emphasize, I never said no autistic person anywhere has any empathy. They just have a deficit in understanding what other people are feeling. It’s like dyscalculiac people and long division: it’s not that everyone with the condition is unable to do it, but it requires substantially more effort, even for those who can.

It seems like you skipped over some of the points I made about how normally it’s easier for autistic people to socialize with other autistic or other neurodivergent people. Yes in cultures where autistic behaviors are more accepted, autistic people aren’t socially rejected for being “weird” or “different”, or at least not on the same level they are. In some cultures people with autistic traits are seen as not a failure but as a difference, and in some they’re accepted not in spite of their autistic traits but because of them and take on different roles.

You seriously support aba? ABA is child abuse so how can you support that? Most autistic kids are perfectly happy with being a little different and finding joy in things other people don’t and the issue is how other people treat them. The alternative to ABA is to leave autistic kids alone and let them be different in peace, duh.

Also ABA makes autistic kids LESS social, not more, as it’s proven to increase social anxiety. My alma mater, Western Kentucky University, has a program for autistic students, considered top-notch in the country. I heard through the grapevine about students coming there from Washington State. The social circles I was in tended to be accommodating and inviting best we could be to autistic students. But the clubs I was a part of gradually saw autistic people disappearing over the four years. I'd encounter the same students on my own, who told me that they felt tired of the socialization, but in general did not feel like they were being marginalized. So, when autistic adults, fully verbal, devoid of intellectual disability, find themselves in a setting where all classes are electives, nobody is forcing them into any social groups, and NTs attempt to accommodate them best they can, they still find socialization difficult. I admit this is anecdotal, but if you have hard data painting a different story, I'd love to see it.

I don't know how on earth you're getting the claim that most autistic people are verbal, unless the only autistic people you regularly interact with are level-1s.

Of course neurotypicals can be more introverted. But introversion is not the same thing as social anxiety, a lack of social awareness, or hermithood, all of which are debilitating. Very few people are fully extroverted or fully introverted; real life is not a Myers-Brigg test.

The reason that autistic people are able to socialize better with other autistic people is also subject to a selection bias. It means that a given autistic person is going to self-select to find people with similar special interests and/or communication styles and spend time around them. That is socialization of a sort, but it is a very narrow sort. NTs do this too, but not anywhere close to the same level. No study has ever shown that autistic people in general have an easier time socializing and empathizing with all (and only) other autistic people. If there is something I'm not getting here, feel free to say so.

I don't know what societies you're talking about, since society is founded upon communication, socialization, and mutual cooperation.

Ivar Lovaas has been dead for 16 years, and ABA never rose or fell by him. There are several different approaches within ABA. My question for you and any other opponent of ABA is, what do you say to the parent whose autistic child has developmentally stagnated, and they are looking for something, anything, that will allow them a sliver of alleviation of symptoms? Your response, "The alternative to ABA is to leave autistic kids alone and let them be different in peace, duh," is indicative of how you have siloed yourself into a community of people disillusioned by the treatment you received. And I won't say every last reason is invalid. That's not the point. It's that the condition exists in the real world outside the narrow slice of the autistic population fortunate enough to have the verbal and literacy skills necessary to participate in online communities and point fingers at the big, bad society. If you want the parents of autistic children to cooperate with you, at some point, you need to give actual answers that don't involve letting their children become feral hermits.

I don’t care if there’s different methods of aba, it’s harmful as a whole. Aba teaches autistic kids to hate themselves and that unless they fundamentally change themselves no one will ever like them.

So what if an autistic kid is a little bit different? They’re not hurting anybody, leave them alone and let them be different in peace. They see no issue with their differences until someone gaslights them that their differences are a moral failing and they should want to be like everyone else.

And since you wanted to compare it to physical disabilities, what if we forced blind people against their will to pretend like they can see or paralyzed people against their will to pretend like they can walk? Since that’s the same thing, you’re forcing autistic people to do things they cannot.

If you think low functioning nonverbal kids deserve that I’m afraid to ask what you think high functioning autistic people like me deserve.

Like I said it’s not about socialization being “difficult” but about how autistic people often need downtime after socialization, just let them have their downtime.

Some societies encourage direct communication, which autistic people are great at. Tribal societies often see people with autistic traits as chosen ones and they become healers or oral historians.

I haven’t “siloed myself” and that comment was you saying a whole lot of nothing. If by “disillusioned with the treatment I received” you mean jaded from systemic ableism, then yeah I am. I was forced into ABA against my will and I hated it and only did it because I felt like I had to. It ruined my mental health and gave me extreme social anxiety. Masking my autism was exhausting and I had a limit, autistic people can’t just mask forever. You’re not even acknowledging that it has the opposite effect as intended as it causes social anxiety. Just say you think I deserved to be abused and go, because that’s what you’re implying.

Your whole post has been gaslighting autistic people over everything from our (different) social skills to whether or not we feel empathy. You’re an ableist, full stop.

I actually do think we should discourage women from becoming housewives. Do not become financially dependent on a man. That's how a lot of women ended up dead over the years. A man gets violent suddenly and you have to choose between homelessness or potentially dying at his hand because you have an enormous gap in your resume and no degrees or certifications or anything that will help you pursue a career that will allow you to be financially independent. He owns your bank account. His name is probably the one on the car. Try and leave and he can report it stolen. Where will you go then?

And if you do become a housewife, take steps to protect yourself. Make sure you’re legally married, for starters; stay-at-home girlfriends have very little legal recourse to claim their partner’s assets in a breakup. Make sure your name is on the house deed/rental agreement, and have your car in your name, even if your spouse is paying for it. Have your spouse transfer money every month into an account solely in your name, so you can buy yourself things without needing permission, but also so you can save up to leave if needed.

If your spouse fights you on any of this, then don’t quit your job. The tradwife to poverty pipeline is real, and so is financial abuse.

Anyway last month I was in a coffee shop and watched 3 lefty queer girls who were working behind the counter talk in full tumblr speak for 20 minutes while referencing the fact that they all had self diagnosed autism about 60 times and then a 90ish year old man with dementia came in and acted super weird and wanted to give them all bottle caps as gifts and didn't leave for way too long and when he did leave they all burst out laughing and started making fun of him to each other and mocking his weird voice and mannerisms so if you think I'm just being nasty saying that if you are straight up insisting that being perceived as fucking weird and rude isn't a symptom of Autism it's because you don't have Autism. Consider the fact that some of the worst human beings on planet earth have 100% convinced themselves they have Autism bc they felt weird in middle school while they are actively bullying and excluding and being cartoonishly cruel to people who actually present for real as fucking weirdos who have mental problems. And if you're reblogging extremely popular posts about how no one who's seen as rude actually has Autism (wrong??? Obviously??) You are actively contributing to the continued ostracization of people who accidentally make others uncomfortable because of their lack of social skills.

i find it extremely frustrating and disheartening that most of the disability related content online and more specifically on tik tok is either 1)parents of disabled children sharing feelings about their own kids that are so harsh and hurtful that it makes ME feel worthless or 2) a disabled person speaking about how horrible life is and how much abelism exists online. and the secret third option is basically just "wow look at all these r*tards living their lives! theyre almost real people!" and thats as close to a positive spin as you can get. its so upsetting. knowing that not only am i disabled but so is my child, my partner, my friends. why cant anyone just treat us like regular people why is it always that either we are a burden or we arent human?

Almost anybody who walks with a cane will tell you their ability to walk is "subpar." Autism is one of the only disabilities I know of where anyone acts like the deficits that literally define the condition are totally not deficits, guys. Also, note, I never said no autistic anywhere has any social skills or empathy. All I said is that they have impaired social skills and empathy. Because that has literally always been the nexus of the diagnostic criteria. I don't know why you're getting on my case about this. And if one's "different" social skills still prevent them from interacting effectively with the vast majority of people, then how can they even be called social skills? Finally, I understand that being accused of having poor empathy can upset someone. Before we go any further, let's make one thing clear: empathy and compassion are not the same. Empathy means the ability to identify with someone's mental or emotional state. I knew a guy who cheated on his wife, who said their marriage had been unhappy for years, she never listened to him, and spent their money in a hedonistic fashion. I empathized with him. I understood his motivations to be intimate with someone who was willing to hear him out. I still don't think adultery is ever justified, and that his wife was right to file for divorce. This is empathy sans compassion. At the same time, a relative of mine, "Ann," has BPD, substance abuse problems, a deadbeat husband, five adult children who want nothing to do with her, and last I checked was homeless. Her sister, "Lynn," who has never experienced any of these things for herself, has cried her eyes out multiple times over Ann's well-being, and has offered to house or at least financially assist her, but Ann turns her down every time. This is despite Lynn admitting that it is difficult to get in Ann's head and understand her thought process. This is compassion (arguably) sans empathy. I certainly have never suggested there is an entire thirtieth* or so of the population that does not experience compassion. But autistic people have a hard time understanding what other people are thinking. Like with the social skills, this is simply an integral part of the diagnostic criteria, and always has been.

My medical history is frankly none of your business. Given the last sentence in your post, however, part of me thinks that even if I was part of your world, none of the above would make any difference.

*The matter of how over- or under-diagnosed autism is, and among whom, is outside the scope of this reply.

Comparing autism to a physical disability in this scenario is a false equivalency. Also calling someone “subpar” is a very demeaning way of putting it.

Those are outdated criteria. And the issue isn’t we lack social skills, it’s that our society has rigid standards for what counts as social skills. Not all cultures have that and may interact differently and even encourage things we associate with autism (like being blunt and honest instead of sugar coating or hinting). It’s usually easy for us to interact with other autistic or other neurodivergent people, which shows the issue isn’t a lack of social skills but difference social skills. Your whole mindset is the premise of why ABA exists. When autistic people are constantly criticized for the way we socialize, especially if we were put in ABA to literally force us to stop socializing the way we naturally do, that stunts us from socializing naturally so the issue isn’t our autism.

We are able to empathize with people, but people assume we don’t have empathy because of how it looks to them and not how we actually feel, they judge us by our tone and body language and not how we actually feel even if our words clearly show empathy.

it bothers me when someone brings up misogyny in shounen anime and people shrug it off with "its designed for teenage boys, what can you expect." like well. idk i think its actually pretty important that shows for teenage boys are normal about women. i mean i think all media should be normal about women but teenagers are impressionable i think we could put a little bit of feminism in the teenage boy shows. it might do some good. you never know.
