friend: what’s on your mind? me: (thinking) Mike Posner’s “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” is originally an acoustic piece about the short lived and burnt out nature of the hip hop/EDM scene, and the way that it emotionally drains it’s artists. Yet it only only hit the US Billboard when it was redressed into EDM and remixed by SeeB. What an interesting irony that a dark breakaway piece about the emptiness and inherent isolation of the idolatry of fame as an EDM artist only reaches a spot on the most widely accepted/tangible metric of musical success when it’s transformed into a product of the lifestyle it criticizes. me: haha not much you?
