They both betray Wesker at the end of RE4, but for different reasons.

Original Ada was following the Organization's orders. She didn't send Albert the Dominant Plaga because sent it to superiors instead, leaving Wesker with a regular Plaga that was useless to him (so he takes this from Krauser's dead body). That’s what she talks about in Fifth Report, confirming that was "their plan" from the start.

Remake Ada did it because of her own moral compass. The whole game she’s questioning herself morality keeps coming up because of how much Raccoon City affected her. She hesitates over whether to send Albert the Amber, and when she realizes it would lead to millions of innocent deaths, she refuses. She takes a huge risk and turns the helicopter away from Albert (lucky for her, Albert decides to let her go).

I know the story is gonna get heavily reinterpreted. The characters and their relationships are gonna get heavily reinterpreted, given a new reading, and we have no idea how much the plot will change compared to the original. Judging from past Remakes? It's gonna be a lot.

Steve Burnside is one of my all-time favorite characters, and I know the Remake is gonna change his personality a lot because so much of the fandom hates original Steve. I know it's not gonna be the same Steve I fell in love with. I adore the Ashford twins, their family history, their tragedy. I know the Remake is gonna change that a lot, reinterpret the characters, and who knows how far they'll take it — but I realize they'll probably end up being completely different characters.

It honestly amazes me how much the wider fandom ignores Code Veronica, when CV is one of the strongest games in the franchise in terms of story, writing, and characters. Even if people aren't interested in the story here, the game is still super important to the main lore:

1. This is the game where Claire finds Chris and reunites with him.

2. This is the game where Chris meets a resurrected Albert, sees his superhuman abilities, and starts training like crazy to be able to stand against him — which leads to his 'new buff physique.' This is a turning point for his character.

3. T-Veronica is obviously used in the C-Virus created by Carla Radames in RE6 — you can see it in the insect-like form of a lot of B.O.W.s.

I do believe Code Veronica is getting a Remake so that 'new audiences' can get familiar with a story that definitely matters to the main lore. But I'm worried about how heavy the reinterpretation will be, because I love the characters and the story the way they are.

...That completely misses the point and ignores how totally different the context of the bridge scene is in the Original vs. the Remake.

Original Ada knew she was going to have to pull a gun on Leon to get the G-Virus from him. But she also knew she wouldn't be able to actually hurt him — so she emptied the gun beforehand. Ada knew she'd have to threaten him, but she also knew she couldn't follow through. It's a desperate move on her part, but there's no internal conflict happening during the confrontation itself. Ada already made her decision BEFORE the bridge scene. So when we see that her gun is empty, we realize she never wanted to hurt him, that she couldn't hurt him. Original Ada is more honest with herself about her feelings for Leon than Remake Ada is.

Remake Ada didn't know what was going to happen. Remake Ada sent Leon to get the G-Virus for her (something original Ada never did). She walks in thinking he'll just hand it over — that he still believes her FBI story. She's not prepared to have to threaten him. The bridge scene is where everything goes to broken for Remake Ada. She couldn't have 'emptied her gun because she didn't want to hurt Leon' — because she didn't even know she'd have to go there. But now Leon doesn't believe her anymore and won't hand over the G-Virus. So Ada has to make a choice: sacrifice Leon and complete the mission, or ditch the mission and spare him. Ada chooses Leon and refuses to shoot — even though she could have, even though she should have by mission logic.

"Ada's gun was empty' works brilliantly for Original, but it would make absolutely zero sense in Remake. Remake Ada couldn't have emptied her gun beforehand because she didn't know she'd need to threaten Leon — unlike original Ada. If Remake had done that, it would've looked like Ada didn't shoot Leon because she physically couldn't (empty clip), not because she chose not to.

And I get it — that take usually comes from newer fans who mostly know the Remake, where Leon basically just stands around at the end while Claire does all the work. So I totally understand why they're confused when Sherry says in RE6, 'Leon and Claire saved my life in Raccoon City' or 'Leon saved my life in Raccoon City' — because in the version they played, Leon didn't do a single thing to help Sherry. It was completely Claire.

It makes it feel like Leon is getting praised for something Claire did. And that's a point where the Remake fumbles what the Original got right.

In the original, THEY BOTH did it. Claire was working on the vaccine, yeah, but Leon carried Sherry in his arms to the train and guarded her. They worked as a team to save her — even if Claire did more of the heavy lifting, you can't just erase Leon from that. RE6 (2012) is referencing the original (1998), not the Remake (2019).

Also, there's stuff that happens off-screen but is shown in the RE3 Epilogues. Claire leaves Sherry with Leon so she can go look for Chris. Before that, they were both taking care of Sherry. After that, Leon was the one looking after her alone. I'm not bringing this up to blame Claire, but to point out that Leon was also there for Sherry, and Sherry formed a bond with both of them. Hell, the only reason Leon agreed to work for the government in the first place was because they threatened Sherry.

So yeah, I get why people are frustrated. Sherry's connection with Claire was a huge part of Claire's arc in RE2 (while Leon's arc was way more focused on his thing with Ada). Years have passed, and the games haven't given us any Claire-and-Sherry interaction, but we've seen Sherry and Leon together twice now. That sucks, but it's not Leon's fault — he still has his own bond with Sherry, and Sherry has every reason to be attached to him.
