Treating gender as a privilege that can be revoked is inherently transphobic. It's implicitly (not necessarily purposefully, but implicitly) saying that you don't think trans people are *really* their gender, that you're just playing along with them to be polite.

You wouldn't call Trump "she", because his being a man is just part of his person, not even worth commenting on. He's evil, he's also a guy. But when an evil person is transgender, that aspect of their personhood becomes something that can be revoked, because- consciously or not- you don't really think trans people are who they say they are. If you are genuinely progressive, you shouldn't be misgendering anybody.
