I’m trying to reimagine the energon universe if it had a crappy art style and I don’t think the story would’ve been strong enough to succeed
Can't say that I agree. While, yes, the art is beautiful and it definitely adds to the story, the story was the main reason a lot of people stayed. Actually, a lot of people didn't like the artstyle Skybound had. Like, I remember people giving Jorge Corona shit for how "ugly" he drew the characters (not an opinion I share, I think his style really fit the series)
I'm more of the idea that Skybound is what I would call a "potential man" story. There's a lot of good elements that are interesting, but the execution ends up falling flat. I don't know, I feel that it's a consequence of DWJ making shit as he went.
But yeah, I think that is not that the art looks good, but that Skybound has one or two things their fans like and focusing on it makes them able to ignore the mess that the story is as a whole
