Wednesday mini-edition with an invitation to an important call tonight!
Although Mississippi had the highest Black population of any state in the 1960s, only 6.7% of eligible Black voters were registered to vote by 1964. Of course, this wasn’t due to a lack of interest in voting. Instead, it was largely the result of... violence and voter suppression efforts intended to severely repress Black political participation. To counter these measures, a coalition of civil rights organizations began planning for the Freedom Summer Project in 1963, which was set to take place the following year.

Freedom Summer planners spent a year on their strategy. Many of these events are coming together on much shorter notice, NEVERTHELESS, here are some big national US protest events planned for June and beyond. We cannot give up:
June 5: Seven Days in June. "Join us on June 5 at sunset in communities around the nation to hold candlelight vigils honoring everyone who has died as a result of cuts to healthcare."
June 14th: Rise Up, Sing Out. "Across the country, communities will gather for local watch parties to sing along, make art, share food, connect with neighbors, and take meaningful action together."
June 20th: FREEDOM NOW: A Juneteenth Week of Action. "From Juneteenth Week to Election Day — a coordinated drumbeat designed to keep pressure on, shift the conversation, and turn out our communities. " The Juneteenth flagship action is in NYC and the rest of the stops on the calendar are still being built out.
June 27th: All of Us 250. "Join us on June 27th for a unifying day of marches, rallies, and protests to reject the whitewashing of our past and future."
NEXT MAJOR USA PROTEST JULY 27th
From the allofus250.org site:
This year marks the 250th Anniversary of America’s Declaration of Independence, and our country is at an unprecedented crossroads. At a time when our country should be coming together to celebrate all that we are, how far we’ve come, and commit to finishing the work to make America a place where freedom and equality are truly for all, a white supremacist faction is pushing our country in the opposite direction. We refuse to comply. Join us on June 27th for a unifying day of marches, rallies, and protests to reject the whitewashing of our past and future.
Of the 150 million appropriated by Congress for bipartisan celebrations, only 25 million is being used for its original purpose, while 100 million has been diverted by the Trumpists for their white supremacist and Christian Nationalist agenda and Trump glorification projects. As Heather Cox Richardson says, "Replacing Americans’ civic identity with Christian nationalism destroys that vitally important understanding of the role of citizens in a democracy. Instead, it demands that Americans do as they are told, turning them into subjects." See the event partners here. Major events are currently planned in Washington DC, Oakland, Boston, Miami, Philadelphia, Chicago and NYC. You can sign up to host an event in your town here. There will be a nationwide organizing call for event hosts on June 6th. Personally I wanted to make this post because I'm angry about the 1.776 billion dollars Trump & co are pretending is a "settlement" for Trump's fake 10 billion lawsuit against the IRS, which was about to be thrown out by the judge because Trump was directing both sides of the lawsuit. Congressional Democrats are correct, this is not a judicial settlement overseen by a court, it is a slush fund and a way for Trump to pay January 6th rioters including the child molesters millions of dollars of taxpayer money with no oversight and no Congressional approval. *** Anyway. If you're as mad as I am about these corrupt, treasonous, seditionist mofos trying to steal "1776" and the entire concept of a truth and reconciliation commission for their project to end US democracy, make a plan to attend one of these rallies on June 27th. And help spread the word.
I'm glad I made it to No Kings in San Antonio. Bunches of smiling people in all varieties. I've been scrolling the internets to see amazing crowd sizes. So big, I had to pause, is it real? Then I see the same location from other angles. Yeah, it was big. When I go thru the comments, somehow I see that guy: "You sang and had a good time. It doesn't do anything." But behind the scenes is a mobilization for supporting local and national elections. County Democratic meet-ups to gather candidates.
"Take action with Indivisible Check out these ways to get involved!"
We’re a grassroots movement of thousands of local Indivisible groups with a mission to elect progressive leaders, rebuild our democracy, and

last minute, but:
if you are going to a No Kings protest today, check to make sure its organized by 5051, not indivisible.
indivisible (at least the chapter local to me) actively encourages undercover cops at their protests and failed to train medics, claiming having medics present at a protest is "escalatory"
