Ongaku Dragon

In the original appearance of the DK Mountain track in Mario Kart: Double Dash, the sign near the beginning of the track read “Donkey Cannon” (top). However, when the track reappeared in Mario Kart Wii, it was changed to “DK Cannon” (bottom) without adjusting the length of the texture for the shorter text. To keep the sign the same length, the texture was stretched horizontally, so Donkey Kong appears distorted in the Mario Kart Wii version.

Left: in Bowser’s “Bowser Crush” special move animation in Super Mario RPG, a Mechakoopa special effect appears to stomp the enemies. Due to the constantly shifting colors of the Mechakoopa, it is difficult to make out the details of the sprite.

After telling you about his two students, it only makes sense to end the week with a post on The Master himself! What is he the master of you ask? His dojo, of course. I thought that was self-explanatory.

Just like his students, The Master is an optional boss, but unlike them, he can bee fought three times. But he’s old, so his immune system isn’t what it used to be, and he often coughs and wheezes as a result. Won’t you go easy on him? You shouldn’t! Because despite his biological health, he has 99 HP in his final form, the maximum possible amount, and stronger attacks than Bowser! 

In keeping with the tradition established by the other two Dojo member posts, I must mention The Master’s hair. It’s not THAT weird, since Toads are known to be capable of having hair, but I only just noticed that in his first form, that’s not his mushroom cap visible under his hood. Those are his eyebrows! I only noticed because his powered-up form has them angry, and I initially thought he was now so powerful that he gained eyebrows. That would have been funnier, but I’m fine with this, too. They remind me of Schnauzer eyebrows.

Who could have taught The Master such advanced techniques? Why, Goompa, of course! Grandfather of everyone’s favorite Goomba With A Hat! I would like to point out that The Master’s techniques include some punching as well. I guess Goompa was able to teach him those ones by just explaining them very thoroughly! 

You may recognize the Master’s headgear as the golden fillet worn by Sun Wukong, the legendary Monkey King from Journey to the West! This is not a picture of him. This is a picture of Kirby.
