SYTYCW’15 Top 10 Celebration - 10 Duality Trailer Scenes - Day 6

For day 6 of the Top 10 celebration posts, I’m posting scenes from Duality’s trailer. Just to change it up a little.

For day 5 of the Top 10 celebration posts (getting close now!) I’m picking some of my favorite quotes from Duality. Ranked in no particular order:

“Mila felt the eyes on her back as clearly as she felt the moonlight.” Chapter One. (Even the word art picture for this is my favorite.)

“’Are you lost?’ Mila managed to ask. “In your eyes.’ “...You can’t see them from here,’ Mila accused.” Chapter One.

“Mila didn’t know how many other horned men could come after her and not be the one.” Chapter Three.

“He smiled, even as she took a step away from him. ‘You think I can stay away now that I’ve found you?’“ Chapter Five.

“The moonlight always shines on you.” Chapter Six.

“She didn’t mind that doing the right thing involved a lot of obstacles and trials: she just wished she could get some sign that in the end, she’d chosen correctly. That her sacrifice would be noted.” Chapter Nine.

[Mila:] “’It’s not like his kisses emit poison.’ [Anna:] “’Well you would know, wouldn’t you?’” Chapter Eleven.

“’We have a duty to the world before we have a duty to each other,” Mila reminded him. [Ashton:] “’Do you not want to stay with me?” “’I do,” Mila admitted... ‘But I know the world will dissolve into chaos if I don’t go.’“ Chapter Twenty-three.

“For the first time in forever, Mila smiled.“ Chapter Twenty-four.

I picked a few of my favorite Duality scenes to celebrate day 4 of the Top 10 celebration: A lot of the scenes ended up being whole chapters, oops.

The very end of the first chapter: how could I not pick this?

Chapter Five’s felled tree/tree throne scene. It reminded me of the character’s natural habitats (especially Ashton’s).

The meeting in Chapter Five (again), because it’s the first time he says, “Maybe one day I’ll be able to talk to you without making you cry.”

Chapter Eleven, because I love that Mila runs right into the source of her problems.

Chapter Twelve’s hair scene. It was funny in my head and it was satisfying on the page.

Chapter Thirteen (mostly because it’s Friday the 13th) because more training and some betrayal for good measure.

Chapter Sixteen, because Ashton handled things remarkably well, in my opinion.

Chapter Twenty-two, because there’s nothing else to be done… but at least a guardian is helpful for once.

Pretty much all of Chapter Twenty-three, for obvious reasons.

Previous one here. I tried to pick different Duality facts to fully celebrate. :)

I didn’t realize Mila and Ashton were the names of a popular couple until a Twitter spambot replied to a tweet with the Mila/Ashton hashtag. Seriously. I did typography for their name pairing and didn’t think of the celebrity couple at all.

Mila’s name appears in Duality 1,733 times. (According to wordcounter.com and basic math.)

Duality had an epilogue around 250 words that got way too abstract. I decided to bulk up the last chapter instead.

When Top 25 was announced, I edited Duality a second time in another weekend–apparently there’s a theme here.

I meant to change Anna’s name because I thought it was a little too similar to Mila’s (syllable-wise and they both ended in ‘a’) but I never got around to it.

It’s titled Duality because of Mila/Ashton being opposites. Lame fact, but I was proud of the title (they don’t always come easy).

Duality’s final, submitted manuscript count was around 81,200 words.

The flower Mila is named after is mentzelia pumila. For Ashton... I imagined him found under a tree (ash?) and brought into town (ton?).

Ghost (the horse) was originally named Bandit. But then I didn’t know if in this world bandit would be a common term and changed it. Still not sure if “ghost” is, either.

On October 10th (keeping with the 10 theme!) Duality had 8 daily views on FictionPress. For November 10th (probably because of the announcement), Duality had 24 daily views. Came a long way. (Would’ve included Wattpad stats but they didn’t go back that far.)

To celebrate Top 10, I thought it would be appropriate to make a list of words that appear ten times in Duality (according to wordcounter.com). Without further ado:

To elaborate on the previous post...

I am (still) e c s t a t i c to announce Duality made So You Think You Can Write 2015′s Top 10! (I was so happy to make the announcement I was almost late to my exam, oops.) Being a Top 55 Semi-Finalist was a surprise, and this is really something else. Thanks again to everyone who’s joined in on the ride. :)

Speaking of the ride... it’s not over yet!
