HORROR MOVIES FOR ADS7
FOR THE NEXT three weeks the late movie slot on ADS7 will be fraught with thrills. The station has bought a couple of AO thrillers and a science fiction epic.
THE PHANTOM OF THE RUE MORGUE will be roughing it up at 10.30 on Friday, November 4. Based on the story by Edgar Allan Poe, and set in the gaslit Paris of the turn of the century, this eerie horror film stars Karl Malden, Patricia Medina and Steve Forrest.
The villain of the piece is an insane murderer who starts with one girl and quickly follows up with many other cold-blooded murders.
Hero of the piece is Inspector Bonnard, who eventually tracks down the killer in a dramatic climax.
This is the sort of well-made entertainment that goes back to Father's time—those good old days when the baddies were really bad, and the goodies were honest and true.
November 11 will feature The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms, a better-than-average science fiction shudder that plays up the scenic effects.
The screenplay was written by Ray Bradbury, a top science fiction writer who knows just how to bring the most out of monsters.
In this case, the monster is a prehistoric character who returns to life and attacks a modern city where Paul Christian, Paula Raymond and Cecil Kellaway play the main characters.
The following Friday will feature The Invisible Ray, with those two outstanding ghouls Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi.
The story of a scientist with a deadly touch might be familiar stuff to the horror fans, but the tale is kept bubbling as it unfolds its weird wonders in the forests of Africa. #
On June 7, 1958, Son of Frankenstein was screened on WCAU's Shock Theatre.
