Apparently there's a trend today of drawing terrible comics. I'm gleefully throwing my hat in. happy june all
My thoughts on The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act (BIG SPOILER WARNING, so avoid if you wanna experience it blind)
I really, really liked it. It wasnât perfect by any means, heck, I still have questions, but what series finale IS perfect, but it fulfilled my expectations, and I canât wait to watch it again on the 19th.
1- All of Jaxâs crashouts, outbursts, etc in this episode were expected, and hurtful. However it wasnât out of character for him. Heck, that scene where Pomni tries to reach out in his mindscape and he fucking CHOKES her while staring into our souls, really frightening.
Thankfully, it didnât feel like âforgivenessâ when Pomni hugged him a few minutes later. Heck, they even gave us a scene of Gangle having conflicting feelings about his funeral and then being told that itâs ok to feel that way.
2- a lot of people may have issues with the twist that the main cast is actually brain copies instead of actual humans trapped in a VR world, but honestlyâŚI think it fits.
It reminds me of this Black Mirror episode called White Christmas, where a woman got a bit of her brain copied into an Alexa-like tech, and the version of her inside that thing had thoughts and feelings of her own, it was basically like slavery, since the company copied her entire personality and consciousness into an AI piece and were able to literally torture her into submission.
So yeah. The characters just being copies makes sense to me. And well, their reactions to that info is understandable. They still felt like real people with real memories, and just found out that they really, truly, canât leave. I love that they all reacted differently. Pomni trying to diffuse the situation, Jax taunting the others (âguess you still stay with mommy, Ragathaâ) to avoid thinking about his human self, and Ragatha + Gangle shutting down entirely.
Ngl, at first I didnât fully understand and thought their human bodies were dead đ
3- Iâm happy for the shippers, honestly. We got Funnybunny, funnydoll, and Abstragedy all in one episode. I still remember crying my fucking eyes out this afternoon seeing Pomni (who dislikes physical touch) hug Ragatha, and the music swelling as the camera panned around them? Omg my heart đ like LITERALLY I squealed, especially when I noticed Pomni tightening her grip. It helps that they continued the touchy gestures throughout the episode.
Same with Pomni hugging Jax. I cried almost as much there, and I blame Michael Kovachâs voice acting and the musical score. The way he kept holding her tighter pulled my heartstrings, man đ and when he said âI hate you, you know thatâ, I said âno you donât.â
Astragedy, oh my lord. Their tension, whether you view it as platonic, romantic, or something else entirely, you could FEEL it. Obviously my favorite part about them in this finale was Zooble wiping away Gangleâs tears. This is corny of me to say, but I like to believe that their human counterparts eventually find each other and maybe fall in love. (Same with funnydoll, cough)
4- Jax. Oh my god, Jax. Personally, I was never a huge fan of the guy. Never found him hot, never found him endearing. But I wonât deny that he is well written and layered. It quite shocked me that he abstracted so early. Iâll admit though, there couldâve been more buildup to it. Then again, all the full abstractions were offscreen. I think if it as similar to dissociation.
I actually liked seeing his backstory with Ribbit and Kaufmo (who is voiced by Arin Hanson btw). It reshapes his reaction to Kaufmoâs funeral in episode 1 so much more.
His argument (more like a screaming match) with Ribbit on the snowy summit felt painfully realistic. It especially hurt more that these scenes were shot from a first person pov instead of third. I canât explain it, but it doesnât feel like itâd hit as hard if it was third person.
And then it cuts to his pov of meeting Pomni, and the altercation in the gun episode? Oh my god.
I appreciate the writers for not having Pomniâs hug magically change him back to normal. That wouldâve been predictable, and more fitting for a kidâs show. And as I mentioned earlier, I like that he wasnât 100% forgiven for bullying Gangle. Sheâs allowed to feel conflicted.
That being said, I do wish the writing focused just as much on Ragatha, Zooble, Gangle and Kinger. Alas, Iâm not expert in the cartoon or writing industry, and at the end of the day, itâs Gooseworxâs show, and theyâre allowed to write it that way. Maybe she didnât have enough room in the time span she was allowed.
5- The reactions to Caine coming back in my theater were practically explosive. Iâm guilty of saying âWHAT??â I donât fully understand it, I think he got transported to the Void like a timeout instead of actual deletion? It wasnât clear to me. But regardless, that was such a cool sequence, seeing how he programmed people into the Circus. Like, really cool. The animation is mwah.
Iâll admit, it felt just a little bit fast paced when Caine realized his mistakes, but hey, I like seeing likable characters admit their mistakes, flaws or crimes. Also, the bit with him yanking the blue dot out of his brain (was it Abel?) was so sick.
And just like with Jax, nobody was obligated to forgive Caine. He didnât expect any. Heck, nobody did forgive him. Even with what he showed them later. I love you Zooble, for having such a good mindset about boundaries, communication and forgiveness.
6- finally, the ending. Iâve already seen a fair share of people complaining, saying it was corny. Which is valid. Or saying âthe ending was assâ and treating it like itâs a fact. âŚnot so valid. People are allowed to dislike or like the ending of this show. It didnât meet everyoneâs standards. But to me, whether or not itâs good is subjective. Everyone has opinions. Personally, I think itâs good! Not perfect, but good.
God, seeing the main charactersâ be reassured by Caine of all people that their human selves are okay? It felt cathartic. You could feel the relief in everyoneâs faces and bodies (minus Jaxâs for obvious reasons). Faces that said âthatâs me??â and âim going to be okayâ.
Thank god, the real names of everybody werenât boring.
Pomni is Abigail
Ragatha is Susie
Zooble is Riley
Gangle is Zoey
Kinger is Grant and Queenie is Destiny
Jax is Leeroy
Theyâre all living their best lives in the real world. Whether or not this info is actually true, i donât think it matters. It gives the characters peace of mind.
I donât know why, but I didnât actually expect the episode to use live actors to portray the Circus membersâ human bodies. Itâs actually super clever. Whoever the actors are (I forgot their names but they are in the credits), you did amazing. Especially Leeroy. It feels fitting that he hides his face in every photo.
ALSO! I had a feeling there was an end credits scene (the MCU trained me lol), but I did NOT expect all of the human characters to show up like that. I love that me and everyone in my theater understood the implications.
(Side note: I still love reading those old comics where the characters do get out of the Circus and meet each other in real life, those are amazing. Itâs ok that theyâre AUs now.)
Final thoughts: So I wouldnât call this a âhappily ever afterâ ending like some think it is. Jax is still abstracted, and they still have to build trust with Caine.
Remember what I compared the twist to earlier with the Black Mirror episode? Itâs not just that theyâre copies of brains.
Think of them as them being born again. Born into confinement, born with memories of their past life, yes, but born into what is basically a prison. Thankfully, now they can make it a home.
So, Iâd say this finale is bittersweet. With a side of psychotherapy.
This insane update from Neocities
[link to Bluesky thread]
Early this morning, we received an email from @namecheap.com that the domain neocities.org was being suspended because of a court order from New Delhi, India (a jurisdiction we don't operate in), which was for an unrelated court order about a sports streaming site on a different domain.
Our domain, neocities.org, was NOT listed in the provided court order document, but Namecheap took the report at face value and suspended the domain anyways, and told us "We have to resolve the issue with the complainant in order to have the domain unsuspended." As in, a legal firm in New Delhi.
Amazingly, we were somehow able to contact their office even though it's midnight in New Delhi, and they acknowledged that taking down neocities.org was a mistake and not what they wanted, and told me they are going to email Namecheap to try to get them to restore the site as well.
So the legal firm that sent the complaint -and- us are both trying to get Namecheap to unsuspend the domain, but as of this writing, they have not responded to any of the requests and we are trying all means to get them to escalate this to a higher priority.
At this point, we have no control over this, only Namecheap does, and Namecheap are the only people that can fix this mistake and unsuspend the domain. Until then, there's nothing we can do to restore service to the subdomain sites and the front site (the custom domain sites still work).
We are already on the phone with an enterprise domain management company and will be moving to a different registrar soon, but we can't even transfer the domain out of Namecheap until they remove the suspension, so either way we're still stuck for now waiting for Namecheap to do something here.
The internet is increasingly becoming dangerous to operate on because of crazy laws and orders like this. A bunk legal complaint in one country, which we aren't even based in, aimed at one alleged infringement issue, has just been converted into infrastructure-level damage against an entire platform
Please accept our apologies for this outage. We will be doing everything in our power to restore the domain and ensure this doesn't happen again.

Shout out to my mom who explains my transition as "Having a daughterpillar turn into a Boyterfly". It doesn't erase the fact I was an adorable little girl, and also affirms my gender now. I love my mother.
white europeans love to pretend like the united states and europe arenât two cheeks of the same ass
Listen, nobody who's ever opened a history book says we didn't do that shit first. Pick an atrocity and chances are there was a time europeans did it on mass to someone for the sake of profit. The difference, is that we have for the most part put that behind us, while the US is just sinking deeper and deeper into it. We're not perfect, and we were a lot worse in the past. But it has been a while since we were the problem
so the racism, antiblackness, islamophobia, and hatred for immigrants just disappeared huh
"its been a while since we were the problem" someone Black was murdered by police violence in Ireland last month
Hey, hey, look me in the eyes when I tell you this okay? The whole "do trans women or trans men have it worse?" debate going on right now is the most obvious CIA bullshit on earth cause honestly we've both got it pretty shitty and fighting each other isn't helping anyone
i have been informed by literally every french speaker on earth that âune pipeâ is slang for blowjob
First of all, NO movie spoilers in the comments â even if I already saw it, I will be deleting spoiler comments until the final ep is out on YouTube!
Anyways, I made this piece to celebrate the finale of this amazing series that has done irreversible damage in my head, and nothing makes me happier than enjoying the journey until the very end (please don't let it flop, lineart took forever đ)

i get that americans love their cultural imperialism, but it really does piss me off that june is âinternationalâ pride month just because something happened in the united states.
in aotearoa, june isnât our pride, itâs theirs. marsha p johnson and sylvia rivera are their historical figures, not ours. the phrase that âyou owe your rights to Black trans womenâ is true there, but here we owe our rights to (mostly) MÄori historical figures. i have the freedoms i do because of the legacy of an entirely different set of people operating in an entirely different context at entirely different times.
But because of american cultural imperialism, most queer people in Aotearoa donât even know our own queer history. Carmen Rupe, Ngahuia Te Awekotuku, the Dorian Society, Gillian Laundon, Georgina Beyer, and the Wolfenden Association are some of our queer history. We should know their names! we should know what they did for us! but because of the power of the american imperial machine, we donât.
our national pride month should be july, the month that the Homosexual Law Reform Act passed in 1986. our two largest cities hold their pride festivals in february and march, respectively. american queer history has very little (or nothing, depending on who you ask) to do with our queer history. anecdotally, from my own queries, queer youth in aotearoa know more about american queer history than our own.
anyway, happy pride, americans. iâm truly sorry that most of you donât see the negative impact your nationâs culture has on the rest of the world. and to the rest of the world reading this, try searching for your own country and cultureâs queer history, donât accept the american narratives as your own. we deserve our own histories divorced from the cultural hegemony of the USA.
