well maybe you should blearily wake up at 5:08 in the pre-dawn light and find the sleeping soft tiny mammal body of your cat just inches from your head like a miracle too beautiful for speech, and you should rustle one hand out from your blankets to rub fingertip circles across the warm eggshell dome of her little velvet-wrapped skull and on the bristly patches just where the cups of her ears begin, and as she inclines her head into your fingers and purrs without ever opening her little eyes you should feel a love so tender that you understand how that love could have reached out from the fireside into the inky spangled nights long gone to reach her, and then you'll feel better
i am at a complete loss as to how to adequately express to you how much this cat throws up yeah

Goddddddd thinking about that narrative moment when something horrible is happening and the character who has been frantically trying to come up with a way to fix it and getting more and more frantic and panicky just—stops. Because. Oh. There’s the solution. They’re not getting out of this alive but like. It’s a solution for everyone else. Okay. Okay.
Why would you do this to me.
and!!!! like!!!! obviously this is delicious when you hit your Self Sacrifice Archetype with it, but honestly I think it's even chewier when you give it to, like. someone with a selfish streak. The one with some arrogance who's maybe not quite a team player. leans more towards loner. Give this moment to the one party member who has been shown to prioritize their own survival over everything else.
And then the eye-of-the-storm realization of "Oh. Huh. I am not making it to the end of the story. but everyone else is going to. Isn't it strange, that I'm not more upset?"
THIS IS SO EXCITING MORE EMILY WILDE MOREEEEEEEE

“Perhaps it is always restful to be around someone who does not expect anything from you beyond what is in your nature.”
Some fanart for the Emily Wilde series! I've really been enjoying these books~ 🍄
Working list of lore accurate faerie books for those who crave them like I do:
Starting off strong with one of my favourites, if you like horror and dark themes, The Call and it's sequel The Invasion by Peadar Ó Guilín is a great bet!
Another dark adult book is Dreams and Shadows by C. Robert Cargill, very cool and extremely accurate characters.
If you're more into YA then a popular author (for a reason) is Holly Black with the Folk of the Air series, the Modern Faerie Tales series, Darkest Part of the Forest and The Spiderwick Chronicles.
Then there is of course Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries, tamer than some others but nonetheless pretty accurate.
The Thorns Remain by JJA Harwood is another great book with a super interesting dynamic between the protagonist and the faerie
More in-depth descriptions of all of these in the reblogs!
the thing i like about the tortall books is that you get wonderful things like a main character who is a 16 year old girl that is smarter than literally everyone, and the Original Dangerous Crow Boy, who kicks people so hard that their necks snap, and suggests murder as a solution to pretty much every problem. duo of all time, they deserve each other
it never occurred to me that the moon has no reason to come up only at night. it doesnt do that at all. its not exclusively a night thing its up during the day a lot too. why dont we talk about this. the moon watches over us more often than we really consider as a culture

My friends!
I remember someone saying “when I die, plant catnip on my grave. I want to be visited by lots and lots of cats” and that changes the way I see my own future death entirely

The Odyssey but retold as a low-stakes modern adventure of one guy out with his girlfriend leaving the bar with his buddies to do just one (1) simple thing real quick, it'll take like 15 minutes tops, he'll be right back, but then some bullshit happens and the trip keeps getting more complicated as more bullshit keeps happening while he just tries to get back to the bar because he promised his girlfriend that he'd get back and he knows that she's still there because she told him she'd wait there.
And by the time he finally gets back it's almost 3 am and the bar is about to close while she's sitting there stone cold sober, surrounded by 5 drunk guys unsuccessfully trying to convince her to give up on waiting for him and go home with one of them instead. And the guy shows up to proceed to beat the shit out of them before explaining himself to her like hey sorry bullshit kept happening, my phone fell into a storm drain and my wallet got stolen when I was trying to find someone who'd borrow me a phone so I could call and
His girlfriend had been fending off the 5 drunk guys for most of the evening by explaining that even if she was going to ditch her boyfriend, she can't possibly leave without finishing her beer, which she is keeping perpetually full via careful sleight of hand where she's just pouring it back and forth into and out of the pitcher.
However the drunk guys are also drinking, and eventually she can't afford to buy another pitcher for the table so she can't keep up the ever-full beer glass trick. At this point she has to resort to setting up the pool trick shot that she's never seen anyone but her boyfriend pull off, and says she'll leave with whoever manages the shot first.
That buys her another hour or so and then, finally, her boyfriend makes it back. He looks like shit, hair down and just a mess, he's wearing an entirely different jacket that he got from an alley, and barely recognizable—especially to 5 guys who've been drunk for hours now. He lurks for a minute, finds out what's going on, and proceeds to pull off the trick shot first try. Throws the jacket off, fixes his hair with a hair tie his girlfriend lends him, finally looks like himself again, and THEN beats the shit out of them with the pool cue.
yuh i was there, that's how it happened
"What did you do to them?" "Nothing. They were the ones that went into my head uninvited, psychics really need to learn boundaries. I tried to keep the away from dangerous memories, but you know how they are with privacy." "What did they find?" "I don't know, I forgot it for a reason."
