HOW TO GAMSAT PHYSICS
I’m a Biologist. At a push I’m a Biochemist: But no way in hell am I a Physicist.
I hate physics, I always have.
However, a large component in the General Australian Med School Aptitude Test (GAMSAT) tests the Physical capabilities (see what I did there?) of a candidate. - this section is also commonly referred to as HELL ON EARTH.
As someone who hasn’t touched physics since I was 16, this makes me more anxious. BUT I DO NOT FEAR.
I’ve devised a plan. I have gone through numerous practice papers and made up a comprehensive checklist of things that come up at least once in the papers.
All knowledge required in the Gamsat physics does not ask of in depth knowledge above A Level standard.
Since teaching myself would be impossible, and I can’t afford a tutor (student budget), I use these helpful videos on youtube instead.
Things to cover before the test:
Vectors & Kinematics Vectors & Scalars Displacement Velocity Acceleration Projectile Motion Mechanics Moments Newton’s Laws of Motion Equilibrium and Friction Work, Energy & Momentum Work, Power, Kinetic and Potential Energy Mechanical Energy Conservation of Momentum Ideal Gases Internal Energy Elastic Properties of Solids Elasticity Hooke’s Law Stress Strain Young’s Modulus Current Electricity Ohm’s Law resistance Resistors in Parallel Resistors in Series Current Velocity Drift Velocity EMF and Voltage Electric Fields Field Strength Potential Capacitance Combining Capacitors Energy in Capacitors Magnetic Fields Field Strength Force on a Moving charge Fields due to currents Waves Oscillations Resonance Simple Harmonic Motion Wave Measurements Superstition & Interference Refractive index Photoelectric Effect Work constant of metals Radioactive Decay Emissions Rate of Decay & Half Life Stable & Unstable Nuclei Concave Lenses Convex Lenses Focal Length Magnification Sounds Sound Level Decibels Intensity Arichimedes Principle Centre of Gravity Anfular Momentum Gold Leaf Electroscope Anticlockwise Rule SHM RI Critical Angle Graham’s Law of Diffusion
You are welcome. Feel free to ask me questions.
Good luck,
Lots of Love,
