I’m Already Dead

Can’t help but think it would’ve done them both a world of good if the Narrator and Mrs. Danvers had just fucked instead.

Of all the Rebecca adaptations, the 2020 version creates the most unhappy Happy Ending that feels disingenuous. The original narrator was meek and naive and it didn’t seem all that out of character that she would immediately be nothing but relieved her husband didn’t love Rebecca, forget all the murder. But the 2020 movie decided to “girlbossify” the narrator (because y’know, 21st century) but instead of her using her newfound backbone to gtfo, they decide to REALLY push the “romance” of the story (!!) so now she is actively deciding to support her murderer husband and get him absolved from the murder of HIS FIRST WIFE, while also antagonizing the woman who was in love with said wife just because she was mean to her, having Mrs. Danvers ultimately become the most sympathetic character as she is simply mourning the love of her life and trying to seek justice for her (I meannn sure she tried to make the narrator kill herself but we stan).
