Because Tumblr doesn't really have a bookmark/saving system, I'm just going to make this, lol. Basically just a list of stories that have caught my eye and I want to keep track of/re-read/read for the first time/etc. Asking to be on taglists has helped a lot, but some of these are finished stories, so that doesn't really help in those cases.

Just going to put in alphabetical order. I'll figure out some key for what I've caught up with/read/recommend later.

the other day i started reminiscing about the stories that got me into whumpblr circa 2018, when i first began lurking, through 2020 when i finally made a blog and got involved. soooo: appreciation post time! here's a list of some stories i read way back when and still think of fondly. i'm also gonna make a project out of rereading and reblogging at least parts of these.

Villain sprang up from bed when the door opened. It'd been a week since Hero's last visit.

A week of staring at that door waiting for it to click open. They were going to do it. They had to do it today. They were going to ask Hero what was wrong and wasn't going to stop until they get an answer.

Then the door fully opened and hero stepped in. Villain forgot words. Hero was… hero looked like they were hit with a truck.

They stepped closer concern etched across their face. “What the hell happened to you?”

Hero chuckled. “What? Sugar nothing happened. I'm fine. What? Do I not look hot anymore?” They smirked but there was a slight forced edge to that curve that Villain couldn't ignore.

“You can't possibly expect me to believe that crap.” Villain cupped both hero's cheeks tilting them from side to side. Hero melted in to their hands, their own finding Villain's waist. “Hmmm I do expect you to believe it. Because it's the truth.”

“Baby, you look like you crawled out of a cave after not seeing sunlight for three months. That is not okay.” Hero smiled at them taking their hands and wrapping them around their neck. “I'm okaaay. You fuss.” Hero proceeded to bury their face in Villain's neck. “Mmh you smell nice.”

“Hero…”

“Hmm?”

“...”

“Cuddles?”

“... Yeah” Villain whispered.

They curled up together in Villain's bed. For the first time in a long time Hero asked to be little spoon, asked so politely and quietly if Villain can please play with their hair. How could villain say no that?

So there they were, with Hero's face buried in to their chest, clinging on for dear life. Villain gently playing with their hair. Hero pressed closer, which Villain didn't think they could do. They kissed the top of their head and continued massaging their scalp. Then they felt it.

The front of their shirt is wetting ever so slightly. “Shh I've got you.” Then Hero started shaking and burrowing further.

“I've got you.” Villain kissed the top of their head again. “Talk to me…” Hero shook their head holding Villain tighter.

Villain pressed their lips in a thin line but didn't push it. Hero didn't need an interrogation. They just needed Villain to hold them. They will tell them once they were ready.

Hero didn't want to leave. They really fucking didn't. But their time was up. So they sat up slowly. (both because they didn't want to leave Villain's warmth and because they didn't want the black spots in their vision when they were trying to look at Villain's face.) They kissed Villain.

“I love you.”

“I love you too… don't do anything stupid.”

“I won't.”

Then they came out of the cell.

Superhero was there. Waiting. Arms crossed over their chest.

“Well?”

They tell them the coordinates Supervillain gave. The ones they memorised last night. And recapped an hour ago.

“Good.”

“Will you let them go now?”

“We have to see the location first.”

Hero stared. Then nodded.

Supervillain stepped closer. “If I find out this is a lie. You better hope I fucking won't.”

Hero nodded. Superhero… was a bit blurry.

“Dismissed.” The faraway voice said and Hero stumbled off.

They didn't know where they were going. Everything was shifting. The ground was slippery.

“Oh hey Hero!” Who was that?

“Hero?” That voice was familiar.

“Woah He-”

And that's when everything went black.

This story takes place is a near-future BBU setting where large corporations that enforce the trade of human companions have been forced to buckle under the building pressures of liberation movements. But only on the surface.

Underneath, things are just as bad as they have always been. And things can only get darker when they exist in the shadows.

Jaime: “In the bed, he is silent the way a sharpened blade through skin doesn’t make a sound as it slices. He pushes the screams down inside himself until they burn, far enough where Mr. Torley can never hear them. But Jaime can. He can always hear them, because they never burn out.”

Sebastian: “It hadn’t been easy, but he considers it the price he had to pay for his independence. For freedom, to live the life as the person he is meant to be, despite his unfortunate odds. He spent years telling himself it would be worth it. That one day, his hard work would pay off. He can’t stop now.”
