Matthew Harris grew up in a very strict police family. His grandfather, father, both brothers, and uncles all cops. So it was no surprise that Matt was going to become a cop as well. He was always the athletic type, played high school football, basketball, and baseball so he was pretty fit when he went to the police academy, and he excelled there like everyone expected him too. Graduated top of his class, and went to join the NYPD right after, it was his dream job, and to be part of the NYPD was such an honor for him.
Things were going well for him in his career, he was well liked by everyone one the squad, and the legacy of his family was getting stronger by the day. During his time on the force, he made a lot of friends, and they were tight, nothing could break the bond they had. So on a routine traffic stop, Matt and his partner Dave pulled a car over for speeding. Dave said he was going to handle it, and Matt could get the next one. So as Dave walked to the car, Matt noticed something was off with the way Dave was handling the procedure, so he got out the car to assist, when he heard Dave telling the guy to get out of the car. He tried to figure out what was going on, but Dave was flipping out, telling the guy to get out the car, or he was going to pull him out himself. The guy refused to roll his window down, and before Matt could say anything, Dave busted the guys window, and forcefully started pulling the guy out of the car. Matt couldn’t believe this was happening, and tried to diffuse the situation, but it was way too late. The guy started resisting, and Matt had to calm him down. Things happened so fast, that once they got him handcuffed, he was a bloody mess. Matt called for an ambulance, and they arrived quickly on the scene.
The man ended up suing the department for assault, and throughout the investigation, Matt stuck to his story about trying to help, but with the dash cam, it looked as if Matt was a part of the whole thing, and it didn’t help that the victim pointed fingers at him as well. The incident made national news, and the department was catching too much flack for it,so they decided to let Matt and Dave go. It was the most heartbreaking thing ever to Matt, he felt like he let not only himself down, but his family as well. He was only on the force for three years, and now this was how he was going to be remembered, it was just too much for him.He could see the disappointment from his family everyday, so he knew he needed to get out of new York. A friend of his told him that they need security in Vegas all the time since they have all those casinos, and he jumped on the first flight out of there, heading to Vegas. He crashed on his friend’s couch for a couple months until he found a job, and could afford a place of his own.He got the job as a security guard at the Grands and has been there for the last five years. He was recently promoted to head of security, which is a huge responsibility, since the hotel got a new owner recently. So a lot was changing around there, but he was going to make sure it ran as smoothly as possible.
