They had been sparring regularly. He was way better at kenjutsu. Her taijutsu forms were better than his, and she could easily see through all his genjutsu illusions. They were pretty even in ninjutsu, but in terms of raw power he was the best between them. He never seemed to hesitate and she liked that about him. He always did his best, believing she could take it. He was daring. She envied his confidence more than his strength. They always sparred without their doujutsu.

She still wasn't sure what he was gaining from their sessions but she for sure, was learning a lot. She had become way more limb with all the dodging she had to do to avoid being hit by giant shurikens and lighting attacks.

Hinata jumped to evade a rain of kunai. She saw him bending his knees preparing to jump and pin her down while she was still in mid air. She acted without really thinking.

Boar. Horse. Tiger.

She felt hot chakra first in her throat, then in her mouth, and instinctively opened her mouth to expel a flame. It became an orb, expanding and exploding right in front of Sasuke.

She knew he could take it.

She came down, rolled forward in the wake of the fireball and when the flames cleared she had a kunai at her opponent's throat.

Sasuke hadn't moved. He was smiling widely, looking at her, his eyes shining with something akin to excitement. Hinata almost dropped the kunai as her heart skipped a beat.

"I thought Kakashi was the copy ninja."

"I-I just took some inspiration from you..."

"I thought the Hyuga didn't use nature releases."

Hinata lowered the kunai and shrugged: "The Hyuga are really proud of the gentle fist. Working on it and the Byakugan are our main focus."

He gently touched her face and Hinata wondered again at his happy smile.

"It's incredible you managed to make a decent fireball on the first try. When I learned this jutsu I burned my cheeks."

"I hope I have better chakra control than you as a baby..."

He snorted "Yeah you just incinerated all the flowers nearby."

Hinata's head snapped to look around her.

"What? Oh no!!! The angelicas!!"

"Those are not just wild flowers?"

She checked on the charred stems.

"It's a medicinal plant! It's used as an anti inflammatory-"

"Seem pretty flammable to me."

Her heart ached.

She had cried for the injustice the Uchiha had suffered. For what Sasuke had suffered. And for what exactly? Something was rotten in the village. How had it been possible that no one saw anything the night of the tragedy, when there was a whole clan with all seeing eyes?

How many times had Sasuke asked himself the same questions?

She dried her cheeks with her hand.

"I would understand if you hated my family...and me."

Hinata looked at Sasuke but his expression was painfully soft. He kneeled beside her.

"If it was so easy...If hating you could bring back my whole clan...I couldn't do it."
