What if Pang hadn’t gone to Namtaan in the last episode and went to see Wave on their rooftop instead?

Aka the fix-it fic that has been living in my brain for weeks. Sometimes you just have to take things into your own hands.

Written for Day 8 of #thegiftedWeek for the ‘other’ prompt.

Pang looked out the window of the classroom and observed the school courtyard below. Looking back, so much had changed during his time at Ritdha and he had learned so much in such a little time, about himself and about the world.

He couldn’t believe he had to say goodbye.

In his pocket, Pang’s phone buzzed. He pulled out his phone and saw a text from Wave:

Rooftop.

Pang immediately felt a wave of anxiety roll over him. A smile tugged at his lips as he charged from the classroom to he and Wave’s secret meeting place. The shared space was their safe haven. It provided them an oasis among all the madness that they had experienced in their time in the Gifted Program and at Ritdha.

He bounded up the stairs and burst out onto the rooftop. He paused at the threshold of the doorway and saw Wave staring out at the campus stoically. Wave was always so still when Pang felt like he was constantly in motion: they were perfect opposites, as always.

“Wave.”

the mug you are holding in your hands is warm and your vision has started getting blurry. it’s almost midnight and there are textbooks all over the floor. you are tired, tired, tired, but you don’t want to go back to your room just yet. your best friend is next to you and you’re secretly in love with him. you wish you could sleep there in his arms.

most teenagers don’t have to worry about their evil school directors and about fighting against a corrupt system, you do. your friends are all there and it’s dark outside. tomorrow is the day and you cannot fail. this is bigger than you and you know it. you cannot fail. the air is electrified. someone opens a bag of chips and you eat. it’s the most surreal moment of your life.

the sun is setting and your heart is beating fast. you are on the rooftop of your school and eating takeaway noodles with your crush. he is laughing with one of your snarky comments and you feel your face heats up. you wish you were brave enough tell him how much you like him. he reaches out and ruffles your hair.

Pom groaned as he sat up, reaching for his alarm, blaring at him rudely from the side table.

Shutting it off, he rolled over and glanced out into the kitchen, where the light was already on and faint clanks and humming could be heard.

He found himself smiling, despite it being 6am and still dark outside, even though he hadn’t got to bed until 2am. He couldn’t help it, it was so nice to wake up and know there was someone there for him, on his good days and his bad ones, always believing in him, never giving up on him.

Pom managed to drag himself up, still blinking blearily as he sighed and slung his feet to the ground, reluctantly leaving the warmth of the blankets to pad towards the doorway between the bedroom and the living area of their apartment.

He smiled as Chanon turned to him when he entered the kitchen. Pom stretched down to rest his head in his arms on the counter, eying Chanon fondly as the kettle clicked and he turned towards it, reaching to pour the boiling contents into the mugs set out next to the sink.

- Sometimes when Pang can tell that Wave is having a bad day, he makes Wave a simple bowl of congee, sets up whatever show they’re currently bingeing together and waits for Wave to get back to the dorm. The relief on Wave’s face is palpable.

- Pang has a favorite pair of pajama pants that he likes to wear around the dorm but he wears them so often that they’ve got holes all over but he wears them anyway. Wave surprises Pang with a new pair and even gets a matching set for himself.

- Wave and Pang like to take walks together to find new spots to call their ‘own’. They wander, hand in hand, around their destination until they find somewhere secluded to just sit with one another in silent solitude.

- One of the times that Wave finds Pang the most adorable is when he’s waking up in the morning. Wave will put his glasses on and gently blow on Pang’s face. Pang scrunches his nose up as he wakes up and always looks super disoriented when he first opens his eyes. Once he sees Wave though, there’s a certain sparkle that he gets in his eyes when he sees Wave in the morning that makes Wave’s heart race.

- Neck nuzzles. Enough said.

- While Wave is not a huge cuddler, Pang is his exception. If they’re in the same space as one another, it’s as if Wave is pulled by gravity toward his boyfriend. He can’t help it.

- Rooftop movies get an upgrade when they head off to university together. They find a rooftop in their dorm and set up a weather resistant blow up mattress so they can watch movies and then cuddle under the stars.

- Pang has a habit of hogging the blankets so Wave is “forced” to cuddle him every night for warmth.

- Wave loves resting his head on Pang’s shoulder. He loves the way that Pang always smells slightly of cranberry shampoo.

- Sharing blankets and sharing earphones.

- While Pang is not a big reader, Wave loves to read to him out loud before they go to bed, a cup of tea in one hand and a book in the other.

- If it rains, Pang and Wave’s favorite thing to do is to find a corner of the library for Pang to listen to music while Wave works on the computer.

The Gifted Week Day 3: Other

A Sequel to my original Pang x Wave Coffee Shop Au  which was written for #thegiftedweek Day 3.

The napkin with Pang’s number on it was sitting on Wave’s pinboard at his desk taunting him. Wave had walked by the coffee shop a couple of times and had not seen Pang behind the counter. It made Wave wonder if the whole thing had been something he just imagined. Pang kind of seemed like he was out of a dream so it wasn’t beyond the realm of possibility.

“Have you talked to that guy yet?” Punn, Wave’s roommate, wondered with a inquisitive smile on his lips.

Wave rolled his eyes and focused his attention on the computer screen where he was in the middle of another coding assignment. It had only been a few days since Pang gave him his number but Wave had not worked up the bravery to actually text Pang.

“I’ve been, uh, busy.” Wave responded lamely.

Punn wasn’t the type to go ignored. He crossed the room quicker than Wave could have anticipated and snatched the number from the board. Wave’s phone was charging on his bedside table so Punn quickly grabbed that too.

☕️Pang’s family owns a coffee shop that has been around since forever.

☕️Pang works as a barista in the shop. He doesn’t enjoy it much, but he doesn’t have any passions or interests that lead to stable careers, so he keeps his job as a barista.

☕️ Everything is boring until an unfamiliar customer named Wave shows up at closing time and asks for an iced americano with 3 shots of espresso. 

☕️ Wave is new to town and drowning in student debt, he just recently graduated from university.

☕️ It’s like 11 pm and Wave is just chugging down his highly caffeinated americano. He’s the only customer there and Pang’s just stares at Wave as if he were an elephant wearing roller skates. 

☕️ Wave ends up venting to Pang about being broke and not being able to find a job.

☕️ you know what that means.

☕️Pang offers Wave a job at his coffee shop and Wave accepts.

☕️ Wave is well organised and constantly lectures Pang about keeping ingredients orderly and making sure the cash register is organised. 

☕️ Wave and Pang have lunch breaks together at the rooftop of the coffee shop.

☕️Pang starts to enjoy working at the coffee shop.

☕️They often visit the froyo place a few blocks away from their coffee shop.

☕️They look at the other customers and make up backstories for them. Pang always makes outrageous stories while Wave makes educated assumptions based on his observations of the customer.

☕️Pang likes to stick post-its on Wave while they work when he isn’t looking. It always takes ages for Wave to notice, but when he does, Pang gets a wack on the head :).

☕️When Pang visits Wave’s apartment for the first time he’s surprised that it’s a mess. Wave is still struggling financially so Pang offers to get him a raise. Wave declines, so Pang offers to let him move into his condo instead.

☕️Once Pang assured Wave that it wouldn’t be a bother, he moved in. But sadly, there was more than one bed.

☕️They develop mutual feelings gradually, but Pang is in denial while Wave wouldn’t dare to confess in fear of ruining their friendship, or even being kicked out.

☕️The coffee shop had it’s fair share of regulars, but there was a couple that Pang always remembered: Punn and Claire. They would always come over for coffee dates and Punn always arranged suprises on their anniversaries.

☕️When Wave was hired, Punn and Claire told him embarrassing things about Pang when he first started working at the shop. They got along pretty well.

☕️Claire would also come to the coffee shop with her colleagues, Namtaan and Ohm. Namtaan was observant, so was Claire, but Ohm? Not so much.

☕️Claire and Namtaan has supsected that Wave and Pang liked each other, but never said anything about it. Until Pang one day told Claire about his feelings.

☕️ “He probably doesn’t like me back, though.” Pang says to Claire.

☕️and Claire’s just like you fool. you absolute idiot. you pea-brained neanderthal. She tells Pang to confess to Wave. And he does, because Claire can be scary sometimes.

☕️He sticks a post-it on Wave’s back that says “I like you” and waits in agony.

☕️ Wave notices it while the two of them are restocking ingredients in the back. He’s ready to give Pang a wack in the head until he reads what it says.

☕️“You like me? Like, you like like me?”

☕️Rooftop coffee dates

☕️Ohm is shooketh when he finds out

Wave woke up one morning to a really intense headache and a very sniffly nose. It wasn't often that he got sick, but it did tend to happen on occasion. And when it did, Wave tended to not be in the highest of spirits.

Wave lifted his head and glanced around the room to see if Pang had already woken up, before his eyes landed upon a little surprise and a bright yellow note to go along with it.

In his sleepy haze, he could just barely make out what looked like Pang's horrendous (in Wave's opinion, Pang would quite vehemently disagree) handwriting scribbled across the yellow surface.

He began to read the note, his glasses now perched upon his nose. He felt his face grow even more flushed as he read Pang's cheesy pick up line, immediately glad the other wasn't around him right then to tease him about it.

As he got to the little P.S. at the bottom, he felt a dopey smile stretch across his face as he saw the mug Pang had picked. It was a little chibi bespectacled frog with little rosy blush on its cheeks.

Wave reversed the note and saw, written in Pang's favourite green pen, "It reminded me of you :3"

Summary: This is a re-imagining of Korn and Mon seeing each other after Korn returns from his accident.
